RECOMMENDATION: That Counci 1 authorize Mayor to execute Agreement between the City and County for funds to operate the South Bay Senior Information and Referral Center. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: The Center which is operated by the City is the primary senior service resource in Chula Vista and plays a leading role in representing the City in addressing all human service needs in the local area. The County Area Agency on Aging (Triple "A") is pleased with the services provided and has proposed that the existing agreement to operate the Center be extended for another year beginning July 1,1988 (see attached). During the 1~87-P8 fiscal year, the Center operated on a budget of $67,340. This consisted of a Council appropriation of $46,387 from Community Development Block Grant funds and a Triple "A" grant of $20,953. This amount of funding is considered necessary to sustain the program at its current level of service. Although the program has historically been funded in large part by the Area Agency on Agi ng, thi s fundi ng is consi derab 1y reduced for FY 1988-89, and a total funding phaseout is proposed by AAA for FY 1989-90. The total operating costs for this program is $70,715. Funding to support this activity will be derived from the following sources: AAA Grant CDBG (in- including Fair Housing) $15,715 55,000 $70,715 FISCAL IMPACT: A grant of $15,715 from Triple "A" combined with $55,000 from the City's Community Development Block Grant would be the funding sources for this program.
