ITEM TITLE: Resolution - Appropriating funds for services provided by
Aztec Bus Lines

BACKGROUND
On December 11, 1973, the City Council accepted the recommendation of a special
judging committee to paint the City's bus fleet orange and blue. This decision
was made after the completion of a coloring contest sponsored by the Chamber of
Commerce.
In February 1974, the City's contractor began repainting our transit vehicles
after staff had detailed the design scheme. When one such bus appeared on its
route, staff was directed by Council to halt further work pending a reevaluation.
During June 1974, a Mayor's Committee, headed by Councilman Scott, investigated
the matter and recommended that the City's buses be painted red, white and blue
in conjunction with the Bicentennial. This report was accepted by Council on
July 16, 1974. Aztec has since commenced implementation.
Though the City's agreement with Aztec Bus Lines provides that buses will
conform with approved municipal identification, the rapid change in requirements
has placed unreasonable burdens on our contractor. As a result, the City has
received a bill in the amount of $300 to cover the costs of again repainting
one bus. It is recommended that the City Council appropriate the necessary funds
so that remittance can be made.
