[ 5] CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF: August 27, 1974 ITEM TITLE: Resolution to Enter Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement Strike Force Robbery Grant - Second Year INITIATED BY: Chief of pOlicel~ BACKGROUND This project will consist of teams of officers deployed in predetermined target areas within San Diego County. These teams will concentrate their efforts in preventing robberies and also instructing store owners and managers in the techniques of robbery prevention. Chula vista is being asked to provide one experienced officer for the Strike Force. This officer's annual salary and fringe benefits will be paid from Grant Funds. It is requested that the City Council pass a Resolution indicating their willingness to enter into this agreement for the second year. A copy of the San Diego Resolution and Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement will be on file in the Chula Vista City Attorney's Office. During the first eight months of the first year of this grant, it has met with reasonable success limited by a delay in receipt of robbery alarm equipment. The prognosis for the second year of the grant is good. It should be pointed out that robbery is the most significant violent crime in San Diego County at this time and a grant such as this should be effective in reducing this problem.
