MINUTES HOUSING ADVISORY COMMITTEE October 23, 1991 MEMBERS PRESENT: Joe Casillas, Kathleen Kearney, Allen King, Dan Dennison STAFF PRESENT: Margery Girbes, David Harris GUESTS PRESENT: Merritt Hodson, Dan Marcus The minutes of May 15, June 26, and August 28, 1991 were approved. September minutes will be considered at the November meeting. Dan Marcus, invited by the Committee, was present to answer questions regarding the Community Development Corporation funded through South Bay Community Services. Dan Marcus gave a hand-out outlining the goals of the CDC and SBCS. . J. Casillas expressed concern that the CDC incorporate as soon as possible and not remain an "arm" of SBCS. D. Marcus responded that for practical reasons (ie. staff support) and the ability to apply for funds from various non-profits, government agencies, etc., it was more beneficial at this time to remain under the umbrella of sacs. D. Marcus also spoke about SBCS proposal for a low-income transitional housing project on Broadway and Flower Streets (attached project description/proposal) K. Kearney requested D. Marcus look into potential tax credits available to employers who employ the residents of low-income/transitional housing developments. Following a lengthy discussion, J. Casillas made a motion to recommend $20,000 be appropriated for pre-development costs and that the City Council increase the density to 25 units for this site. Meeting adjourned at approximately 5:00 p.m. .
