CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

CALL MEETING TO ORDER
ROLL CALL
MEMBERS PRESENT:

1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the meeting September 8, 1992 were approved.
MSUC [McAllister/Dumlao] 5-0.
2. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Action Items:
a. Joint Meeting with Business Community
This item was continued to the next regularly scheduled
meeting.
Non-Action Items:
a.
Update on McCandlisG Memorial Allocation Plan
Staff is develcping a draft policy to present to the Sub-
Committee within the next few weeks. Once the Commission
approves the guidelines, the policy will then be
forwarded to Council for their approval. The target date
is the early part of November. The first award would
take place at the Awards Banquet in April, 1993.

b. Update on Cultural Arts/Community Pride Festival
Staff has established a date of May 8 which is about a
week later than the commission had originally set. The
reason is not to conflict again with National City's
May time Band Review.
The Festival would be a one-day event which would take
place in the Memorial Park area, which includes the
Women's Club, Parkway Gymnasium, Parkway Center, etc.
Multi-cultural entertainment, craft vendors by
invitations, the Chula vista Performing Arts Group are
some of the major events staff is focusing on. Staff is
willing to work with the Commission on any cultural arts
events interfacing with this city function.
3. NEW BUSINESS
Action Item:
a. Acceptance of Cultural Arts Coordinator Work Plan/
Accountabilities
A revised copy of the Work Plan/Accountabilities was
distributed to the Commission. MSUC [Torres/McAllister]
7-0 to accept the Cultural Arts Coordinator Work
Plan/Accountabilities as revised.
The proposed Cultural Arts Coordinator position is still
pending approval in the City Manager's off ice. The
Commission decided to strongly urge the city Manager to
approve the Cultural Arts Coordinator for the recruitment
and hiring process. MSUC [McAllister/Scott] 7-0 to add
this recommendation as an action item.
MSUC [Torres/Gerber] 7-0 to direct a letter from the
Commission to the City Manager strongly endorsing the job
description and specifications for the part-time Cultural
Arts Coordinator position, and urging the Manager to
approve recruitment and subsequent hiring of the
position.
Non-Action Item:
a.
Review/Update of Commission Work Plan
Staff suggested it may be an appropriate time for the
Commission to review the Work Plan that was developed.

objectives to make sure they are working in the right
direction, identify what has been achieved and bring the

commissioner Gerber reported the CV21 Committee Final
Report was completed. The Arts Directory had been listed
as an accomplished project. The top ten CV21 Project
priorities were listed with the construction of a
cultural arts complex listed as #2.

Meeting adjourned at 6: 05 p.m. to the next regularly scheduled
meeting of November 10, 1992 at 5:00 p.m.
