HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2010-072RESOLUTION N0.2010-072 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING BIDS AND AWARDING THE CONTRACT FOR THE "G STREET SEWER IMPROVEMENT PROJECT, BETWEEN FOURTH AVENUE AND SECOND AVENUE (SW251)" TO CASS CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $452,096 AND AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF ALL AVAILABLE FUNDS IN THE PROJECT WHEREAS, City staff prepared plans and specifications for the "G Street Sewer Improvement Project, between Fourth Avenue and Second Avenue (SW251)" and advertised the project on February 12, 2010; and WHEREAS, the work to be done consists of the removal and replacement of existing sewer pipe, sewer manholes, and other miscellaneous work to complete the project; and WHEREAS, on March 10, 2010, the Director of Public Works received twelve (12) sealed bids for the Project as follows: CONTRACTOR BID AMOUNT 1. Cass Construction - El Cajon, CA $452,096.00 2. Garcia-Juarez Construction -Brea, CA $479,410.00 3. Balboa Construction -Vista, CA $567,205.00 4. Basile Construction -San Diego, CA $577,575.75 5. TC Construction- Santee, CA $610,645.00 6. Burtech Pipeline -Encinitas, CA $682,020.00 7. SC Valley Construction-El Cajon, CA $696,185.00 8. Scheidel Contracting and Engineering - La Mesa, CA $779,436.00 9. Palm Engineering -San Diego, CA $795,970.00 10 . Southland Paving -Escondido, CA $829,700.00 11 . Young and Associates -Pasadena, CA $996,300.00 12 . Schilling Paradise - El Cajon, CA $1,057,710.00 WHEREAS, the low bid by Cass Construction, Inc, is below the Engineer's estimate of $993,850 by $541,754, or approximately 54%; much of this difference can be attributed to the high degree of competition currently within the construction mazket; and WHEREAS, Cass Construction has satisfactorily completed previous City projects of a similar nature. Resolution No. 2010-072 Page 2 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby accept bids and award the contract for the "G Street Sewer Improvement Project, between Fourth Avenue and Second Avenue (SW251)" to Cass Construction in the amount of $452,096. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby waive Council Policy 574-01 and authorize the Director of Public Works to approve change orders, as necessary, up to the contingency amount of $90,420 and expend all available funds in the project.
