HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2010-040RESOLUTION NO. 2010-040 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROVING THE PARK MASTER PLAN FOR A 3.9 ACRE PUBLIC NEIGHBORHOOD PARK SITE ON FOURTH AVENUE IN WESTERN CHULA VISTA WHEREAS, the proposed park site is located in the Montgomery area, west of I-805 in western Chula Vista, along the east side of Fourth Avenue and south of the existing south Chula Vista Library building on Orange Avenue, in an existing SDG&E pazcel; and WHEREAS, the site consists of approximately 3.9 acres and is part of an SDG&E parcel at Fourth Avenue south of Orange Avenue; and WHEREAS, existing improvements on the parcel consist of an existing electrical tower, a pole, a 24-foot wide driveway and miscellaneous SDG&E maintenance azeas; and WHEREAS, the majority of the site is unimproved open space; and WHEREAS, the Pazk & Recreation Commission approved at their meeting on January 28th, 2010, the Park Master Plan with a recommendation that natural turf be used on the sports field in preference to artificial turf; and WHEREAS, the Commission also included a recommendation that a contest be held for a park name that shall be community based and also contain the name of a sponsor; and WHEREAS, the City will apply in March 2010 for grant funding through Proposition 84, the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Act of 2008 (Statewide Pazk Program); and WHEREAS, this program provides grant funding For the creation of new parks and creating opportunities in underserved communities in California; and WHEREAS, the grant application will apply for the full cost of designing and constructing the park; and WHEREAS, the City has already received a funding contribution from SDG&E for construction of the pazk in the SDG & E parcel; and WHEREAS, facilitated by city staff, several community outreach workshop efforts were held to gather community input; and WHEREAS, the workshops provided an opportunity for residents and community leaders to voice their ideas, facility needs, wants and opinions. Resolution No. 2010-040 Page 2 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista hereby approve the Pazk Master Plan for the 3.9 acre public neighborhood pazk site on Fourth Avenue in western Chula Vista and authorize the holding of a contest for a pazk name that shall also be allowed to contain the name of a sponsor.
