RESOLUTION NO. 10383
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA AMENDING THE 1980-81 BUDGET BY ADDING A DATA
ENTRY OPERATOR II POSITION IN THE DATA PROCESSING
DIVISION
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the Data Processing Division has presently
assigned 2.5 positions filled by two full-time, permanent
employess and various part-time, temporary employees, and
WHEREAS, the 1980 data entry workload has increased 28%
over the 1978 workload when said positions were established, and
WHEREAS, it is now necessary in order to eliminate.
backlogs and to provide a satisfactory level of service for
contractual customers to add an additional Data Entry Operator II
position in the Data Processing Division.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Chula Vista does hereby establish an additional
position of Data Entry Operator II in the Data Processing
Division.

PERSONNEL RECOMMENDATION: (include class and pay information, dates, recommended

Based on the lead differential established by the Arthur Young classification
study, "7.5% between two levels withi~ the ~ame job family where the c~a~s~fic~-
tion differences are based on increaslng Sklll levels and lead responslbl11ty, ___ ~
it is recommended that the salary for Data Entry Operator II be set at Range 27.7,
$941-$1144/month. In addition, it is recommended that the current classification
of Data Entry Operator be retitled Data Entry Operator I with no change in salary
or class specification.

DATA ENTRY OPERATOR II
Definition
Under direction, to operate an alphabetic and numeric data entry
machine; to' classify and code data; to sort and file punch cards; to
interpret data entry formats; to lead and train subordinate personnel;
and to do related work as required.
*Examples of Typical Duties
Coordinates and performs data entry activity for budget, accounting,
payroll, inventory, and other data sources; classifies and codes data to
be entered; reads posting material; sets up and prepares program cards;
programs data entry machines; compiles summaries of data; answers requests
for information; performs clerical duties such as filing, typing and record
keeping; leads and trains subordinates.
**Desirable Qualifications
Training and Experience - Any combination to graduation from high
school, including or supplemented by business training and two years of
recent full time experience in data entry operation. Certification of
13,000 strokes per hour with 1% or fewer errors is required.
Knowledges, Skills and Ab.j,lities - Knowledge of data entry practices
and procedures; knowledge of general office procedures and the use of stan-
dard office machines and equipment; ability to set up program cards, to
operate a data entry machine with speed and accuracy, and to type at a pro-
ductive rate of speed; ability to interpret data entry formats; ability
to perform routine and repetitive tasks with a high degree of manual
dexterity; ability to work cooperatively with others; ability to train
and supervise subordinate personnel; ability to coordinate data entry
functions.
