RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA APPROVING FEDERAL FUNDING
REQUESTS FOR SUBMISSION (PROJECT LIST D)
WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista has, for many yeazs, worked cooperatively and
effectively with its Congressional representative on issues concerning our community; and
WHEREAS, among the ways the City has benefited from this effort is through Federal
funds to support projects and programs that the City Council has endorsed; and
WHEREAS, prior Federal Funds supported the Veterans Wing at the Civic Center
Branch Library and efforts toward Chula Vista's future university; and
WHEREAS, City staff has developed a package of proposed City projects for which
Federal funding assistance may be available in the 2010 legislative session; and
WHEREAS, Chula Vista's Congressional representative, Bob Filner, and California
Senator, Barbara Boxer, have requested that the City identify projects for possible federal
funding; and
WHEREAS, this request for funding is a preliminary step, and if any projects on the list
submitted are approved for funding, staff will return to Council to request that it accept the
funding and approve the funded projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula
Vista does hereby approve federal funding requests for submission as identified on Project List
D, attached to this Resolution.

Parkway Recreation Center Complex Renovate Parkway Pool, gym and community center. Pool & gym $2 Million
Renovation are rww 50 years old. The community center is 25 years old. The
mmplez is in the heart of the urban core. It requires maJor
renova0on to meet Ne needs of tl1e residents of the northwest
quadrant of the dty. Farility needs Include more program; o(fce
antl srorage space, general building upgrades, renovatton of the
exlsting second Odor of the gymnasium, an elevator to the second
floor for ADA accessibility, expansion of community center to
provide more program space, kitchen renovatton, pool and locker

Veterans Meet the Community
Veteran's exhibit" The Hero Nexl Door". Exhibit cases and lighted
hanging art system which coultl be used to mount exhibits of
$75,000
letters, documents, diaries, piUures, artifacts cufated under the
guidance of our Chula Vista Heritage Museum stag antl our
professional local history librarian to highlight the veteran
experience and role of veterans in the community
Writing workshop series assisting vets in exploring their 550,000
experiences via memoirs, short stores, and poems to better share
their experiences and insight with wmmunity. Wish list would
consist of a professional leacherllrainer, funds for materials,
rinti and modeR su od for the ublic rece lion.
Career resource for veterans In Transition. Wsh list would inGude $50,000
a circulating laptop lab, consisting of 12 laptops that could be
loaned within the Civic Center building to mak9 it easier for vets to
find career and job information. Funding request for additional
books, newspapers, magazines and database resources in areas
of ecerwmirs, career, job search, military mallets and history.
A public information campaign to raise awareness of library $100,000
resources and programs that would appeal to and assist veterans.
Wish list would Consist ofa contract PR antl design professional,
rintin , mailin ,and advertisin costs.
Lighting retroft for Veterans wing. Curren) lighting is very low
making II difficult for public, especially older veterans to have a
comfortable browsin , readin and stud ex erience.
