the County of San Diego for the City to provide senior information and referral
services to the South Bay area during fiscal year 1981-82

The City of Chula Vista has been operating the South Bay Senior Information and Referral
'Center for the past three years. Partial funding for the Center is provided by a grant from
the County Area Agency on Aging (AAA). The AAA is pleased with the services provided by the
South Bay Center and has proposed that the agreerrent to operate the Center be extended for
another year, beginning July 1, 1981. (A copy of the agreement is included as an exhibit.)
A $28,937 AAA Grant is available as partial funding for the operation of the Center.

DISCUSSION
The South Bay Information and Referral Center is providing South Bay seniors an essential
service. The Center averages 400 inquiries and service requests each lIDnth. Linkup assist-
ance is provided for the seniors through service providers in the areas of legal, hospital
release, transportation, in-home care, jobs and stress reduction.
A detailed budget for the Center will be part of the Parks and Recreation Department's
1981-82 annual budget request. In essence, the total estimated budget is $54,907, including
funds for salary increases. Revenue to support the program is proposed from the following
sources:

. FISCAL IMPACT
The a!lDunt of $10,070 has been requested in the fiscal year 1981-82 Conmunity Developllent
Block Grant budget for the Senior Infonnation and Referral Center; $28,937 will be forth-
coming from the AAA Grant; $5,130 in-kind services are budgeted in other Parks and Recrea-
tion Department activities, and $10,770 in Community Development Block Grant IDeal Option
funds comprise the funding sources for the Center.
