ITEM TITLE: NOL-) The City of Chula Vista and the County of San Diego jointly invited proposals for the system. Proposals were received and opened at 3:00 p.m. on February 27, 1981, in the Conference Room at the County of San Diego's Purchasing Department. It is the Development Services Administrator's and my RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept the proposals and award the contract to R. H. Alexander Company and appropriate $3,100 from Revenue Sharing Fund 425 to 600-6000-RS26. BOARD/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable DISCUSSION: ../ The City and County required basically the same system except that the County required sixteen installation sites and interface with an IBM computer and Chula Vista required two installation sites and interface with a Burroughs computer. The two systems were bid independently and evaluated separately by each agency. The following proposals were received for Chula Vista's requirements: B !DDER AMOUNT $30,227.06 R.H. To interface with the City's Burrough's computer would cost in excess of $10,000. We, therefore, investigated the possibility of using the Engineering Department's word processor/computer to reduce costs. We have a proposal from Upward Directions to provide the interface to the Engineering computer for $2,110 plus $166 for telephone line installation. The total system as originally approved included a remotely operated gate at the Public Works Yard which will cost about $5,000. The gate adds to security and convenience (primarily for police vehicles outside normal working hours) but the system will be operational without the gate. The gate will be requested in next year's CIP. The 12,000 gallon unleaded fuel tank with phase two vapor control plus ancillary equipment which was also in the original system is installed and operating at the Public Works Yard. Increasing demand for automated fueling systems has driven up the cost. Although the cost is up about 10 percent over the estimate, the system remains an excellent investment. FISCAL IMPACT: $29,456.90 balance in 600-6000-RS26 augmented by $3,100 from Revenue Sharing Fund 425. .JJ/rms ._~~_._'~_._~._--~ ! 'I I._.m.~_.::.::~' --;:-:-r.~~~:I-;;f-.' ' . \:1:; ,.1.,.
