Appropriating Funds for Library Concert Series SUBMITTED BY: Assistant City Manager (4/5ths Vote: Yes~ No___) In the 1980-81 budget, the City Council approved funding of $860 for the Library Chamber Concert Series managed by Gretchen Evans. Resolution 10215 approved an agreement between the City and Mrs. Evans in .regard to the expenditure of these funds. According to the terms of the agreement, Mrs. Evans would provide a total of seven concerts, three in the fall and four in the spring. Of those seven concerts, the City would finance two, the Musician's Union four, and Mrs. Evans would solicit funds for the seventh concert. The fall series has been completed, with the Musician's Union funding two of the three concerts and the City funding the third. However, Mrs. Evans has recently learned that, due to a cutback in national funds, the Musician's Trust will be unable to provide finan" cial support for the spring series. She has submitted a letter outlining several options and it is my RECOMMENDATION: That Council: 1. Approve option #3 as suggested by Mrs. Evans; and 2. Appropriate $132.50 to complete spring concert series. BACKGROUND: The attached letter from Mrs. Evans offers four alternatives for the spring concert series. Under the first option, the February concert (funded by the City) would be held and the rest of the series cancelled. The second option provides that the City would fund the January concert as well, at an additional cost of $175.00. The third ootion suggests that Mrs. Evans and the City would solit the cost of oroviding the January and March concerts; and the fourth option suggests splitting the cost of the January con- cert and arranging for a volunteer group to perform in March in lieu of the scheduled concer-t. The third option presented by Mrs. Evans would allow the spring concert series to be completed as originally contemplated. Additional funding by the City would amount to $132.50, and Mrs. Evans' portion of the funding would be accomplished by reducing her fee from the $250 originally budgeted to $112.50 for managing the three remaining concerts. The City's total expenditure for funding the 1980-81 series would be $992.50. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Appropriate $132.50 from the unappropriated General Fund reserve to Account No. 100-0130~5451. mab 10"370 Form A-1l3 (Rev. 11/79) by t e 'ity Council of Chula Vista, California Dated / - 6 - ,F / ~~ EXHIBITS Agreement____ Resolution____ Ordinance Plat Notification List Other ENVIRONMENTAL OOCUMENT: Attached Submitted on , " I, j'~ I I I I , I
