HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Statement 1980/10/21 Item 9 COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT 0 Item 9 ITEM TITLE: SUBMITTED BY: BACKGROUND City Manager i:- (4/5ths Vote: Yes NOL) The sole Senior Recreation Supervisor has been required to assume the duties formerly shared with-Mr. Don Allen since the resignation of Herbye White, former Rec~eation Superintendent. Due to the increased responsibi-lity a'nd extra work load for the Senior Recreation Supervisor, it is my RECOMMENDATION That Counci1 adopt resolution providing an additional $200 per month for the Senior Recreation Supervisor, Mr. Gerry Foncerrada, effective August 8, 1980. DISCUSSION The 1980-81 adopted budget provides for two Senior Recreation Supervisors. On August 7, 1980, one of the two Senior Recreation Supervisors resigned (Don Allen), leaving the entire supervision of the recreation program for this City under the supervision of Mr. Gerry Foncerrada, the other Senior'Recreation Supervisor. When the Recreation Superintendent (Herbye White) resigned on December 26, 1979, it was determined that the department would function without filling the position of Recreation Superintendent. The two Senior Recreation Supervisors were given an additional 5% increase in salary to I compensate them for the added responsibilities they were reqUired to assume in the absence of the Recreation Superintendent. We are now faced with a situation where we do not desire to make the decision to either reestablish the Recreation Superintendent's position or fill the vacancy created when Don Allen left the City. We do not wish to make this decision at this time due to the resignation of the Director of Parks & Recreation because it seems more appropriate that when a new Director is appointed he or she should have the opportunity to evaluate the organization and assist us in determining which position or positions should be created and/or filled. During the interim between the time that Mr. Hall leaves City service and a new Director is appointed, it is contemplated that Mr. Asmus will assume the role of Acting Director, with the Park Superintendent and the Senior Recreation Supervisor reporting to him. The attached resolution provides that Mr. Gerry Foncerrada would receive an additional $200 per month, retroactive to 8/8/80, until a new Director of Parks & Recreation is appointed and either the Recreation Superintendent position is reestablished or a second Senior Recreation Supervisor is hired to fill the current vacancy. FINANCIAL IMPACT Monthly salary of Sr. Recreation Supervisor Special pay (Estimated total additional pay from 8/8/80 through 2/7/81 - approximately six months) $2,014 200 $2,214 $1,200 There ,are salary savings available in Account 100-1530-5101 due to the vacancy of the other Senior Recreation Supervisor's position.
