Andy Trujillo, Transit Manager~ TO: FROM: SUBJECT: SAN DIEGO METROPOLITAN TRANSIT SYSTEM SERVICE REDUCTIONS - UPDATE In the Council Informational Memorandum dated November 12, 2009, City transit staff reported to Council on the proposed elimination of Sunday transit scrvices in the region including the Chula Vista service area. Lower State funding and tax revenues have required the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) to look for ways to bridge an ominous funding gap. City transit staff has been working with MTS Planning staff to come up with a plan to retain some Sunday service. The attached route was devcloped using Passenger Trip Generation data in order to determine peak demand. The goal was to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of this "lifeline" Sunday service route to cover and meet Sunday's travel needs. The Route will operate on an hour frequency with a service span Irom 6:30 a.m. to 6:57 p.m. The route will have the H Street Transit Center and Otay Ranch Town Centcr as its terminals and will opcrate via H Street, Hilltop Drive, E. Orange A venue, Main Strcet, Brandywine A venue and E. Palomar Street. Pending the outcome of the second public hearing at the MTS Board on January 7,2010, implementation is scheduled for Fchruary 28,2010.
