This letter is to convey my support and endorsement of former Mayor Stephen Padilla to be
Chula Vista's next Port Commissioner.
As you know, the Port of San Diego has the duty to promote the pubic tmst and influence the
region's maritime, commercial, and recreationa] economy, including the realization of Chula
Vista's Bay Front. Mr. Padilla is uniquely qualified to strongly advocate for Chula Vista's
interests, maintain community consensus, protect environmental resources, and help navigate the
complex approval processes necessary to move ahead.
As a former member of the California Coastal Commission, Steve's knowledge of statewide
entitlement and coastal protection issues, and his positive relationships with both commissioners
and staff will be invaluable to Chula Vista in the coming months. In addition, his demonstrated
]eadership and consensus building skills on matters concerning the bay front have gained him
support from port tenants, community members, environmental and labor organizations, as well
as, legislators at the state and federal level. Steve is also well respected among the sitting
members of the Port Commission, which can only serve to enhance his potential effectiveness.
I urge you to appoint former Mayor Stephen Padilla to the Port Commission as he is the
strongest candidate to represent Chula Vista's interests at this critical time.
Sincerely,
~~:~
