AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 2182 AND ADOPTING
SECTIONS 15.36.010 THROUGH 15.36.070 OF THE
CHULA VISTA MUNICIPAL CODE, ALL RELATING TO
THE UNIFORM FIRE CODE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULAVISTA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: That Ordinance No. 2182 be and is hereby
repealed.
SECTION II: That Sections 15.36.010 through 15.36.070 of
Chapter 15.36 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code shall be amended
to read as follows:
Section 15.36.010 Uniform Fire Code. 1988 Edition: Adopted
bY Reference.
There is hereby adopted by reference that certain document
known and designated as the Uniform Fire Code and the Appendix
thereto, 1988 Edition, as compiled and published by the
International Conference of Building Officials and the Western
Fire Chiefs' Association, three (3) copies of which are on
file in the office of the City Clerk. Said document is hereby
adopted prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous
to life and property from fire or explosion, and each and all
such regulations, provisions, penalties, conditions and terms
of said Uniform Fire Code are hereby referred to, adopted and
made a par hereof as though fully set forth herein, excepting
such portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended.
Section 15.36.015 Additions and/or Deletions
There is hereby added to the Uniform Fire Code, 1988 Edition,
the following amendments to read as set forth in Sections
15.36.020 through 15.36.070:
Section 15.36.020, Section 10.207(b) is amended - Fire
Apparatus Access Roads.
ARTICLE 10, SECTION 10.207(b) IS AMENDED TO READ AS
FOLLOWS:
After "for fire apparatus access roads," add "and or fire
lanes."
Section 15.36.030, Section 10.210 added:
ARTICLE 10, SECTION 10.210 IS ADDED AS A NEW SUBSECTION
TO READ AS FOLLOWS:
Section 10.210 Pre-Fire and Emerqencv Planning
When deemed necessary to provide for protection of life
or property, the Chief may require the owner or operator
of any occupancy regulated by this code to develop and
implement a pre-fire and emergency plan.
Section 15.36.035, Section 10.301 amended - Installation and
Maintenance of Fire Protection, Life-Safety Systems and
Appliances.
ARTICLE 10, SECTION 10.301 SUBSECTIONS (g) AND (h) BE
ADDED AND AMENDED AS FOLLOWS:
Section 10.301 (g) Installation of Fire Hydrants
Fire hydrants, where required in all subdivision,
apartment complexes, commercial developments, etc., shall
be installed in an operable condition prior to any
combustible construction material being placed on the
site.
Section 10.301 (h) StOD Orders
Whenever any combustible material is placed on the site
or any work is being done contrary to the provisions of
this Code, the Chief may order the said material removed
from the site or the work stopped by notice in writing
served on the owner or agent, and any such persons shall
forthwith comply with said notice until authorized by the
Chief to proceed.
Section 15.36.040, Section 10.305 (e) is added - Installation
of Fixed Fire Protection Systems.
ARTICLE 10, SECTION 10.305 (e) TO BE ADDED AND AMENDED
AS FOLLOWS:
e. All fire extinguishing systems shall be installed
by a licensed agency.
Section 15.36.045, Section 10.306 (b) 5 is added - Automatic
Fire-Extinguishing Systems.
ARTICLE 10, SECTION 10.306 (b) 5 IS ADDED TO READ AS
FOLLOWS:
5. In every building regardless of occupancy group or
type of construction, when such building is more
than 40 feet or four stories or more in height.
Section 15.36.050, Section 10.306 (h) is amended - Automatic
Fire Extinguishing Systems.
ARTICLE 10, SECTION 10.306 (h) IS AMENDED TO READ AS
FOLLOWS:
Add new sentence at end of subsection. "Where required,
all buildings on the same property shall be protected
with an automatic fire sprinkler system."
Section 15.36.055, Table 10.309 is amended - Standpipe
Requirements.
ARTICLE 10, TABLE 10.309 - STANDPIPE REQUIREMENTS IS
AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:
#2 Change 4 stories to 3 stories.
Section 15.36.060, Section 14.103 (s) is amended - Fire Alarm
Systems - General Requirements.
ARTICLE 14, SECTION 14.103 (a) IS AMENDED TO READ AS
FOLLOWS:
After "but not limited to", add "Name, address, telephone
and license number of installing contractor."
Section 15.36.065, Section 14.104 (c) is amended - Fire Alarm
Systems - General Requirements.
ARTICLE 14, SECTION 14.104 (c) IS AMENDED TO READ AS
FOLLOWS:
After "20 or more guest rooms", add "and when an approved
fire alarm system is required by the provisions of this
section, any and all buildings constructed after the
effective date of this ordinance, on the same property,
regardless of height or size, shall be provided with an
approved fire alarm system".
Section 15.36.070, Section 32.105 is amended - Canopies and
Temporary Membrane Structures
ARTICLE 32, TABLE 32.105 LOCATION, ACCESS AND PARKING IS
AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:

* Change from 12 to 20 feet
SECTION III: This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force the thirty-first day from and after its passage and approval.

PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Chula Vista, California, this 14th day of November, 1989 by the
following vote:
