Customer Service
Improvements
We want to thank all of our cusmmers for
Vnur patience during our remodeling and while
we are housed in temporary quarters. The City
is remodeling our permanent otlices and public

you when we reopen in early 200.
Some of you mi7;}n he wonderinx
hat we did during those few days we
were closed. Primarily, eve packed
up all your plans, our records, 61es,
utlin~ supplies and furniture
and relocated them from our
pennancn[ huilding to our
temporary offices.
However, the office closure
also offered us an opporRtniry to mete
mgether and discuss some customer service
improvements. We came up uvi[h several ideas
that should reduce vour counter wait times and
make that experience a li[tle hi[ easier and quicker
fur yuu:
• We have insealled a second printer so [hat we
can prim muhiple receipts and permia at the
same time. 1'hia should reduce your wait time.
• We have issued two-way radios to our Planning
Division mounter staff so they can call for back-up
help and managers when the lines become too
long. Phis should also reduu your wait time,
• We arc working on an auurma[ed calendar [hat
tells the technicians where all the meetings are
happening in C~.iry Hall. When yuu show up at
our wun[cr for a meeting, we will soon be able to
direct you immediately m the right meeting place.
We have other Brea[ ideas [hat you will begin
to scr being implemented soon.'f it help us ensure
we are on the right [rack, we'd really like your
opinions and ideas. Please mke time to wmple[c
[he survev enclosed in this newslct[er and return
it a, any ul our staff members or via mail. You can

The Best in Customer S~ztisfdetion
Let + face i[-, no one likes t
wait in line. And, when you
finally get co the front, no
matter wha[ the situation, a
smilr and a "drank you for
wai[in~' can make all nc~
difference in whether Vou
walk away satis5cd with
the service you ntieived. It's
that simple.
Maybe its the years of experience in
the banking industry, or the many hunts
of formal customer service gaining she's
mceived, but somehow, as [hc cusmmcrs
a[ chc Planning aaun[cr can at[est,
Hilda Almejo ranks right up there with
the hest when i[ comes co cusmmer
satisfuttion.
Prior to her now eight-year career
with the City OI (:hula Vista, Almejo
worked in banking in a variety of
positions from teller m manager. All were
positions that placed her working directly
with cusmmers and in some cases
jutting communin~ oun-cach
asses in banking. W'hcn she
vegan with the City in 1998,
;he worked in the Finance
Department and transfcu cd
m Planning and Building
seeking an oppormniry to
Icarn about development
.ervices and continue her
interface with the public. "Though
the subject matter is very different from
het background, Hilda has become
very good at answering our customerw
questions. She is very resourcehd and
will track down the infornation;'
slates Merlin Miller, [he supervisor for
Planning counter opet-ations.
When asked hn philosophy
about her job as Devclopmen[ Sci vice
Technician (PST), it is simply "1 want
the public ro get my best scivice,° she
says sincerely. °I always try nr put myself
in the ursromers shocx and year [hero
the way I would wan[ hr he u~eated.° Phis
attitude has won Almejo much praise Irom
customers and co-workcu alike. "When
we tall}' our cus[omer comment cards,
kiilda is mnsis[cntly the DST in Planning
chat receives the most positive feedback
from ottr nrsnnners. She is also a pleasure
m work with,° umdudes Miller.
So, if you have to wait in line m
check zoning information or submi[ au
application to Planning, we hope the smile
waiting at the counter makrs the overall
experience worth your time. ~
