COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT Item ..3 Meeting Date 5/26/93 ITEM TITLE: Resolution 1:71;1; Amending the FY 1992-93 budget to add 0.11 Nature Center Aide positions to the budget of the Bayfront Conservancy Trust. SUBMITTED BY: Executive Director, Bayfront Conservancy Trust REVIEWED BY: city ManagerJG~~ll (4/5ths Vote: Yes~ No_l In response to the current climate of fiscal austerity and the increasing indebtedness of the Bayfront Conservancy Trust (BCT) to the City of Chula Vista, the BCT Board of Directors has taken actions to increase the BCT's revenues and reduce its reliance on the City. One of these actions has been to institute an admissions fee for the Chula vista Nature Center, effective June 2, 1993. RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt the resolution amending the FY 1992-93 BCT budget to permit hiring 0.11 (FTE) positions to help collect the admissions fee in June 1993. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: None. DISCUSSION: As indicated on pages 219-220 of the City Manager's FY 1993-94 budget commentary, $6,000 in part-time hours (0.33 FTE Nature Center Aide) is proposed in the FY 1993-94 BCT budget to help collect the admission fees during the three busy summer months of June, July and August. since these part-time Nature Center Aide positions are not included in the current FY 1992-93 budget and the admission fees will be instituted on June 2, 1993, it is recommended that the FY 1992-93 budget be amended to allow 0.11 FTE in two part-time positions to be hired for a total of 56 hours per week during the month of June 1993. FISCAL IMPACT: The FY 1992-93 BCT budget contains adequate funds to cover the cost of the 0.11 FTE position. The charging of admissions is estimated to produce over $90,000 per year in net revenue to the BCT, which will reduce the amount of City General Fund loans provided to the BCT. 3-/ BUDGET REVIEW SESSION MAY 26.1993 PUBLIC SAFETY Police/Police Grants Fire CUL ruRAL AND LEISURE Library/Literacy Grant/Library Grants Parks and Recreation/Open Space DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE Planning Community Development Building & Housing Public Works (Eng ineering/Operations/Transit/Sewer /Gas Tax) BAYFRONT CONSERVANCY TRUST (N.I.C.)
