HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1982-10794 RESOLUTION NO. 10794 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO TO RELINQUISH THEIR RIGHTS IN ALL COUNTY BUILDINGS LOCATED IN THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA CIVIC CENTER, AND TO DEED THE FORMER SOUTH BAY COURT BUILDING AND THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT BUILDING TO THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, AND DECLARING INTENT OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA TO USE THE COURT BUILDING AS LEGISLATIVE FIELD OFFICES AND TO PERMIT THE CONTINUED USE OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT BUILDING BY THE COUNTY The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the municipal courts and auxiliary functions have now transferred their operation as of March 1, 1982 to the new County Regional Center in the City of Chula Vista leaving the former South Bay Court building vacant, and WHEREAS, the staff of the City of Chula Vista believes that County staff contemplates a substitution of some other County operation in that facility, and WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista feels strongly that the joint efforts of the City and the County in the creation of a new Regional Center was predicated to a great extent upon the idea that County operations in the Civic Center area would be strictly limited and transferred to the new Center, and WHEREAS, in addition to its dedication to the creation of a South County Regional Center, the City of Chula Vista was also significantly instrumental in the creation of a separate South Bay Judicial District which serves all of the communities of this area, and WHEREAS, the joint effort of the City and the County in creating the new Regional Center, including a substantial contri- bution by the City of Chula Vista both as to the financial arrangement for its construction as well as the vigorous program for initial land acquisition and the use of the City'S Redevelop- ment Agency as a vehicle for acquisition, would now be furthered by the County's transfer of the building of the former courthouse as well as the building housing the County Health Department to the City of Chula Vista so that the City's Civic Center complex may be more fully controlled and directed by the City, and WHEREAS, it is the intent of the City to make the courthouse space available as a location for the legislative field offices for our federal and state legislators which use would be highly compatible with the City's Civic Center operation as well as being greatly desired by said legislators, and WHEREAS, the building presently being used by the County Health operation would be intended to continue at a nominal rental until such time as an alternate location might be found. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby request the Board of Super- visors to transfer the former South Bay Court building and Health Center to the City of Chula Vista and does hereby authorize and direct Mayor Gregory R. Cox to present to the Board of Supervisors a detailed presentation of reasons for such action. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby declare its intent to utilize said space as legislative field offices for federal and state officials.
