RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA SUPPORTING THE PETITION OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY
SHERIFF REQUESTING THAT THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS
COMMISSION PROVIDE INCREASED ALLOCATION OF RADIO
FREQUENCIES
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the Sheriff of Los Angeles County in cooperation
with the California Peace Officers' Association, in the interests
of all public safety organizations in the United States, has
requested that the Federal Communications Commission provide
increased allocation of radio frequencies for the use of public
safety organizations, and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that radio telecommunications
is the principal medium of command and control for those agencies
charged with the maintenance of public safety and it is recognized
that there has been a failure to provide sufficient radio spectrum
in the Public Safety Service of Land Mobile.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Chula Vista does hereby endorse and urge the adoption
of those changes as proposed in Petition RM 3975 submitted to the
Federal Communications Commission by the Sheriff of Los Angeles
County in cooperation with the California Peace Officers'
Association.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges:
1. That the House Sub-Committee on Telecommunications,
Consumer Protection and Finance hold public hearings
on the subject of specific requirements for public
safety radio so that Congress may adopt essential
legislation to provide for the continued needs of
all public safety services.
2. That the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and
Transportation hold similar hearings.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and she is hereby authorized and directed to
forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Federal
Commmunications Commission so that they may be fully informed of
our City's concern over the insufficient radio spectrum provided
for public safety services so essential for the communication
needs of public safety organizations and further that certified
copies of this resolution be sent to all members of the California
Congressional delegation and the President of the United States.
