HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1981-10722 Revised 1/25/82 RESOLUTION NO. 10722 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO TO PERMIT THE REGISTRAR OF VOTERS TO CONDUCT THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON APRIL 13, 1982 AND RUNOFF ELECTION IF NEEDED The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista intends to conduct a general municipal election to fill three Council vacancy seats, and two seats on the Board of Education of the Chula Vista Elementary School District, and WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista desires that the Registrar of Voters of the County of San Diego render specialized services for said election, and WHEREAS, the Registrar of Voters had informed the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista that his office is in a position to conduct said election if so directed by the County Board of Supervisors, and WHEREAS, in the event no candidate receives a majority vote for the office of Councilmember, a special runoff election will be called on June 8, 1982. NGv, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, pursuant to the Elections Code of the State of California, Section 22003, as follows: 1. That the County Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to direct the Registrar of Voters to conduct said election, and runoff election if needed, on behalf of the City of Chula Vista, and 2. That the County Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to direct the Registrar of Voters to conduct said election on behalf of the Chula Vista Elementary School District. 3. That the Registrar of Voters be, and he is hereby authorized to issue warrants for the payment of election officials in the following amounts: Inspectors, $40.00; Judges, $35.00; Clerks, $35.00; and for payment of costs of polling places in the sum of $25.00 and $3.00 per person for delivery of ballots to the collection point. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that pursuant to Section 300 of the Charter of the City of Chula Vista, the person elected to a specific seat for office of the Council must receive a majority of the votes cast. In the event no candidate receive a majority, then the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes for said office shall run in a special runoff election to be conducted on June 8, 1982 and that if this Special Election is ordered, the Registrar of Voters be permitted to perform and render all services and proceedings incidental to and connected with the conduct of this special election. -1- BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of San Diego shall be reimbursed in full for the services performed by the Registrar of Voters for the City of Chula vista upon presentation of a bill therefor and that this City agrees to indemnify and to save free and harmless the County, its officers, agents and employees from expense or liability, including reasonable attorneys fees, as a result of an election contest arising after conduct of this election. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of Chula vista is hereby directed to deliver forthwith certified copies of this resolution to the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego, and to the Registrar of Voters of the County of San Diego.
