HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2006-254 RESOLUTION NO. 2006-254 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2006-205, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION IN SAID CITY ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2006, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR, ELECTING ONE MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS TWO PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENTS AND ONE BALLOT MEASURE WHEREAS, on July 11,2006, the Council adopted Resolution No. 2006-205, calling and giving notice of the Special Municipal Election on November 7, 2006, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and one Member of the City Council to fill Seat I for the full term of four years, commencing in December 2006; and WHEREAS, the Council has taken action to place two proposed Charter amendments and one measure on the ballot at the Special Municipal Election on November 7, 2006. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby Resolve, Declare, Determine, and Order as follows: SECTION I. Pursuant to the requirements of the Chula Vista Charter and the laws of the State of California, there shall be and there is hereby called and ordered held in the City of Chula Vista, California, on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, a Special Municipal Election for the purposes of (I) electing a Mayor; (2) electing one Member of the City Council to fill Seat I for the full term of four years, commencing December 2006; and (3) submitting to the qualified electors two proposed Charter amendments and one ballot measure. SECTION 2. The City Clerk is directed to prepare and publish a notice of the measures to be voted on. Arguments shall be due by August 23, 2006, and the 10-day public review period for the arguments shall be from August 24 through September 5, 2006. SECTION 3. On August 24, 2006, the City Clerk will trade direct arguments with author(s) from each side for the preparation of rebuttals, which will be due by August 31, 2006, followed by a public review period for the rebuttals from September I through September II, 2006. SECTION 4. In all particulars not recited in this Resolution, said election shall be held and conducted as provided by law for holding municipal elections in said City. SECTION 5. Notice of the time and place of holding said election is hereby given and the City Clerk is hereby authorized, instructed and directed to give such further or additional notice of said election in time, form and manner as required by law.
