COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilwoman McCandliss commented a proposal for the H Street Trolley Station
Concession Stana will be coming to the City Council next week from MTDB for
review and comment.
Councilwoman McCandliss also brought up the question of the Police Unit and
Fire Unit PERS contribution. She believes there is an inequity between the
two.
She stated the Police Unit was willing to negotiate this issue, while the Fire
Unit refused to consider any vehicle, including the one agreed to by POA, and
simply had the position that the M0A was illegal. It has since been found
that this is correct. Councilwoman McCandliss believes the Police Officers
should not be penalized for negotiating. There would be an additional cost of
$15,000 to the City.
City Council Minutes -2- August 7, 1986
MS (McCandliss/Cox) the Police Unit be paid the full percentage PERS
contribution that the City is now offering the Fire Unit.
City Manager Goss responded to Councilman Moore's question as to his
recor~endation. He stated the City has a lot of respect for the position
taken by the Police Officer's Association and believes it would help promote
extremely gooa employee relations with the Police Officers' Association if
this action is taken.
Councilman Malcolm commented the Police Officers' Association demonstrated a
high degree of integrity on their part of wanting to be fair and honest. He
did not feel they were being penalized.
