HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1986/08/07 MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA Thursday, August 7, 1986 Council Chambers 8:34 p.m. Public Services Building ROLL CALL Present: Mayor Cox; Councilmembers Campbell, McCandliss, Malcolm, Moore Absent: None Staff Present: City Manager Goss, Deputy City Manager Morris, Assistant City Attorney Gill RESOLUTION 12655 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA URGING THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES TO SUPPORT STATE LEGISLATION SEEKING AN EQUITABLE METHOD FOR FINANCING SCHOOLS RESOLUTION OFFERED BY MAYOR COX, the reading of the text was waived by unanimous consent, passed and approved unanimously. Councilman Moore suggested copies of this resolution be sent to both the school districts and Ty Compton, Chairman of the Task Force. CITY MANAGER'S REPORT None MAYOR'S REPORT None COUNCIL COMMENTS Councilwoman McCandliss commented a proposal for the H Street Trolley Station Concession Stana will be coming to the City Council next week from MTDB for review and comment. Councilwoman McCandliss also brought up the question of the Police Unit and Fire Unit PERS contribution. She believes there is an inequity between the two. She stated the Police Unit was willing to negotiate this issue, while the Fire Unit refused to consider any vehicle, including the one agreed to by POA, and simply had the position that the M0A was illegal. It has since been found that this is correct. Councilwoman McCandliss believes the Police Officers should not be penalized for negotiating. There would be an additional cost of $15,000 to the City. City Manager Goss responded to Councilman Moore's question as to his recor~endation. He stated the City has a lot of respect for the position taken by the Police Officer's Association and believes it would help promote extremely gooa employee relations with the Police Officers' Association if this action is taken. Councilman Malcolm commented the Police Officers' Association demonstrated a high degree of integrity on their part of wanting to be fair and honest. He did not feel they were being penalized. The motion passed unanimously. Councilman Moore encouraged all to attend the Chula Vista Diamond Anniversary Picnic being held Sunaay, August lO. He announced 309 long-term residents (residents of 40 or more years) have responde~ to their invitation along with 58 of their guests. Mayor Cox presented a check to the City Manager from the County of San Diego in the amount of $1,449,291.95. The money is being transferred from the Montgomery Sanitation District to the City of Chula Vista. The City took full responsibility for the Sanitation District as of July l, 1986.
