COUNCIL COMMENTS
Due to the lengthy City Council agenda of May 15, 1984, Council Comments were
deferred to follow the Redevelopment Agency meeting on this date.
City Manager Goss requested that the report by the Legislative Committee on
Propositions 18 and 19 be held over until Tuesday night's City Council meeting.
MSUC (Scott/Cox) to continue this item to Tuesday, May 22, 1984.
MAYOR'S REPORT
a. At the community meeting recently held on May lO, 1984, concerning the
Otay Valley Road Redevelopment Project, members of the Citizens Action
~ Network requested to show a slide presentation. It was suggested at that
time that this presentation would be better viewed at a regularly
scheduled Council meeting. It now appears the best time for this showing
would be at an afternoon meeting. The Mayor suggested that the
presentation be scheduled for the Redevelopment Agency meeting at 4 p.m.
on Thursday, June 21.
MSUC (Cox/Moore) to schedule the Citizens Action Network slide
presentation for the Redevelopment Agency meeting on Thursday, June 21,
1984, at 4 p.m.
b. Mayor Cox discussed ramifications involving the name of the San Diego
Area Sector relating to the border patrol operation.
MSUC (Cox/Scott) to ask staff to prepare a resolution for Council
consideration asking the Immigration and Naturalization Service to revise
the name of the headquarters to something other than "Chula Vista."

City Council Meeting - 2 - May 17, 1984
c. Councilman Scott alluded to a concern of Councilwoman McCandliss
regarding the International Friendship Commission. Correspondence from
Tim Nader was received regarding Chula Vista hosting the 1985 Sister
Cities International Spring Conference.
MSUC (Scott/Moore) to have staff look into hosting the Sister Cities
International Spring Conference.
(Councilman Malcolm arrived at this time, 4:46 p.m.)
d. Councilwoman McCandliss also had a concern regarding the pepper trees on
"F" Street near the Library. Last year staff advised that the pepper
trees should be removed because they were thwarting the growth of the new
trees underneath. However, this unsightly condition still exists.
MSUC (Scott/Moore) to have staff look into the problem of the pepper
trees and report back to the Council.
e. Mayor Cox discussed scheduling the budget overview.
MSUC (Cox/Moore) to schedule the budget overview for Thursday, May 24,
1984, at 4 p.m.
f. Mayor Cox discussed two Assembly Bills relating to wetlands policy
amendments that could have an impact on the City of Chula Vista.
MSUC (Cox/Moore) to refer Assembly Bill 3507 and Assembly Bill 3700 tO
the Legislative Conmnittee for review.
g. Mayor Cox commented on the County's budget process which indicates a
possible booking facility at the South County Regional Center.
Councilman Scott stated that clarification of a booking facility should
be provided to the Council before they can make a decision on supporting
it.
MSUC (Cox/Scott) to bring back a resolution and recommendation as to
whether the City Council should seek support of the Board of Supervisors
to provide a booking facility at the South County Regional Center.
ADJOURNMENT at 4:50 p.m. to Closed Session and the City Council meeting
scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 1984, followed by the Navy Housing tour. The
Recording Secretary was excused and the City Manager reported that Closed
Session adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
