HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1974-7270 RESOLUTION NO. 7270 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA SUPPORTING AB 3217, WHICH ESTABLISHES A SOUTH BAY JUDICIAL DISTRICT, AND ASSEMBLY CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 104, WHICH WOULD ALLOW THE ANNEXATION OF APPROPRIATE AREAS TO SAID JUDICIAL DISTRICT EVEN THOUGH THE DISTRICT WOULD THEN CROSS CITY BOUNDARIES The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the City of Chula vista has long supported pro- posals which would insure full municipal court services in the South Bay area, and WHEREAS, after lengthy discussions with members of the Board of Supervisors, representatives of the County Division of Law Enforcement, the South Bay Bar Association, the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce and interested citizens, the City Council has been persuaded that AB 3217 proposed by Assemblyman Wadie Deddeh in conjunction with ACA 104, also introduced by Assemblyman Deddeh, would in fact be the best vehicles for assuring such court services, and WHEREAS, the City Council feels that the location of full municipal court services in the South Bay area will clearly provide a more efficient and equitable system of justice for all of the people in this area and that such decentralization of the courts is con- sistent with the position held by the State Judicial Council, and WHEREAS, said Assembly Bill and Assembly Constitutional Amendment have been approved and recommended with a "do pass" by the Judiciary Committee of the Assembly of the State of California. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista strongly supports AB 3217 and ACA 104 and urges the passage of both bills by the LegiSlature of the State of California and approval by the Governor of the State of California. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and she is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to Senator Hills, Assemblyman Deddeh and to all members of the San Diego Legislative Delegation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and she is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the City Councils of all of the cities in San Diego County urging that the cities support the establishment of a South Bay Judicial District.
