RESOLUTION NO. 7270
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA SUPPORTING AB 3217, WHICH ESTABLISHES A SOUTH
BAY JUDICIAL DISTRICT, AND ASSEMBLY CONSTITUTIONAL
AMENDMENT 104, WHICH WOULD ALLOW THE ANNEXATION OF
APPROPRIATE AREAS TO SAID JUDICIAL DISTRICT EVEN
THOUGH THE DISTRICT WOULD THEN CROSS CITY BOUNDARIES
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the City of Chula vista has long supported pro-
posals which would insure full municipal court services in the South
Bay area, and
WHEREAS, after lengthy discussions with members of the
Board of Supervisors, representatives of the County Division of
Law Enforcement, the South Bay Bar Association, the Chula Vista
Chamber of Commerce and interested citizens, the City Council has
been persuaded that AB 3217 proposed by Assemblyman Wadie Deddeh
in conjunction with ACA 104, also introduced by Assemblyman Deddeh,
would in fact be the best vehicles for assuring such court services,
and
WHEREAS, the City Council feels that the location of full
municipal court services in the South Bay area will clearly provide a
more efficient and equitable system of justice for all of the people
in this area and that such decentralization of the courts is con-
sistent with the position held by the State Judicial Council, and
WHEREAS, said Assembly Bill and Assembly Constitutional
Amendment have been approved and recommended with a "do pass" by the
Judiciary Committee of the Assembly of the State of California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Chula Vista strongly supports AB 3217 and ACA 104 and
urges the passage of both bills by the LegiSlature of the State of
California and approval by the Governor of the State of California.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and she is hereby directed to forward a certified
copy of this resolution to Senator Hills, Assemblyman Deddeh and
to all members of the San Diego Legislative Delegation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City
of Chula Vista be, and she is hereby directed to forward a certified
copy of this resolution to the City Councils of all of the cities
