HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2006-205 e e e RESOLUTION NO 2006-205 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2006 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND A MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AS REQUIRED BY THE PROVISIONS OF THE CHULA VISTA CHARTER AND THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA RELATING TO THE CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Charter of the City of Chula Vista, a Special Municipal Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, for the purpose of conducting a runoff election between the two candidates for Mayor and the two candidates for Member of the City Council who received the highest number of votes cast, and yet did not receive a total of fifty percent plus one, at the General Municipal Election held on June 6, 2006. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City ofChula Vista does hereby resolve, declare, determine, and order as follows: SECTION I. Pursuant to the requirements of the Chula Vista Charter and the laws of the State of California, there shall be and there is hereby called and ordered held in the City of Chula Vista, California, on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, a special municipal election of the qualified electors of said City for the purpose of a runoff election to elect one (1) Mayor and one (1) Member of the City Council for full terms of four years, commencing in December 2006. SECTION 2. The ballots to be used at said election shall be, both as to form and matter contained therein, such as may be required by law to be used thereat. SECTION 3. The City Clerk of said City is hereby authorized, instructed and directed to procure and furnish any and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies, equipment and paraphernalia that may be necessary in order to properly and lawfully conduct said election. SECTION 4. The polls of said election shall be open at seven o'clock a.m. of the day of said election and shall remain open continuously from said time until eight o'clock p.m. of the same day, when said polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section 14401 of the Elections Code af the State of California. SECTION 5. In all particulars not recited in this Resolution, said election shall be held and conducted as provided by law for holding municipal elections in said City. SECTION 6.
