MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Hodson, Vice Chairman Taylor, Commissioners
Hernandez, Donovan, Rowe and Mitchell
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
CITY STAFF PRESENT: Assistant Planner Bazzel
1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER:
Chairman Hodson called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL - Members present constituted a quorum.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: f4SUC Donovan/Pitchell to approve the minutes of
December 16, 1985
4. OLD BUSINESS:
- Review of Potential Flistorical Sites
The Commissioners completed their Historic Resources Inventory Forms
which included ranking order and pertinent information. A brief
discussion was held on various homes. Particularly noted was a house
at J & 3rd Avenue that was very deteriorated. The question was asked
if Curtis Mathes could at least paint the house. It was also noted
that the house at 353 Church was demolished and an office building was
being constructed on the property.
- Chula Vista Heritage 1911-1986 Book
Assistant Planner Bazzel told the Commission we are waiting for
approximately 28 pages for final edition before going to press.
Rohr industries will be sending the book out for printing.
5. COMMUNICATIONS (PUBLIC REMARKS/BD. MEP•16ERS COMMENTS/WRITTEN CORRESPONDENCE)
Letter from P•1r. & Mrs. Williams Regarding Designation of 692 Second Ave.
as Historical Site
Mr. & Mrs. Walter Williams told Commissioners they were requesting designa-
tion of their home as an historical site. They invited the Commissioners to
their home. The Commission gave them brief background on the home and said
this would be considered at the next regular scheduled meeting.

SPECIAL ORDER OF THE DAY:
Mr. Tom Demiri, San Diego Natural History Museum, gave a presentation on the
paleontological findings at Eastlake. He discussed the fact that the fossils
found in the rock formations were 25 million years old and this was the richest
site found in California. He also showed slides of fossils and various geological
formations.
1. APPROVAL OF f4INUTES: MSUC Donovan/Hernandez to approve the minutes of
November 8, 1985.
2. NEl^J BUSINESS:
- Review of Potential Historical Sites
Environmental Review Coordinator Reid gave Commission Member Hernandez
copies of the Historic Resource Inventory Forms for her to review for
possible designation of local historic sites. The Commission then dis-
cussed the need to review each site in the field.
3. OLD BUSINESS:
- Historical Book
Environmental Review Coordinator Reid distributed a draft of the proposed
Chula Vista Heritage 1911-1986 Book. He stated it should be published by
March 2nd and there would be hardbound and softbound copies for sale.
Mr. Reid requested input from the Commissioners on the historical book.

5. ADJOURNMENT TO WORKSHOP SESSION AND REGULAR SCHEDULED MEETING FOR 1/20/86.
