MEETING TIME AND PLACE Has traditionally been 2nd Monday evening monthly, but we are changing to synchronize better with Planning Commission. GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE B~C/C To review and make recommendations on environmen- tal and historic preservation issues to City Council, Planning Com- mission and various City Departments. HIGHLIGHTS OF ACTIVITIES WHICH HAVE OCCURRED THIS PAST YEAR In the past year the Commission has conducted 13 regular business meet- ings and 10 workshops. We review~e T~,nvironmen a mpa p 5 (EIRs), and in eat case re erre mo tuns mission regarding t e a equacy o e EIRs and any other pertinent com- ments we felt were warranted, The Planning Commission never gave reaction. The Commission also held public hearings on 46 sites proposed for historic designation. These hearings were held over a num er o wee s in Council Chambers, The Commission memembers a so con uc e err own, independent field inspections of potential sites, followed y a van tour of sites on a Saturday morning, There were originally about 250 properties on the list of potential sites, which we narrowe own to 46 sites through group reviews and field inspections. The review of historic sites was a ratifying endeavor, but most home owners were reluctant to have permit control placed on their properties, fearing undue governmental, bureaucratic control over their private property, and potential reduction in their property value. COM4MENTS,AND RECONYMENDATIONS TO COUNCIL; The Commission members have grown increas- ing y distressed and concerned during the last year about the intended and de5ira e ro e an unction o t e Commrssion. Ati;ention: Mr. Douglas D. Reid Dear Sir: I am writing in regard to my house which',is Chula Vista, Calif. 'i located at~;769 Broadway, I have owned this house since 1943. I would like to donate it to the }ii.,torioal Society to be preserved and kept for many years. I have owned this house for 44 years and I understand it was buult in 1880, if that is true it•is now 107 years old., I admit it is old but in very good condition for its age today. `Ahen I first moved to Chula Vista I lived at 208 Shasta St- for six r!-onths. I sold that house and moved to 769 National Avenue C.V. which later +yrears was changed tc 767 Brcad~.vay. I believe I had 3z acres of land. Iran 165 feet on Broadway and 660 feet East. I sc'_d all except the 165 Feet on Broadway and 150 feet .in depth. The old big house has four apartments in it now. I have raised four children, 3 boys and 1 girl which are all grown and moved a.:ay. I moved to San Diego in ',1963 but my heart has always been .n "hula Vista. (The Land of Paradise.) the time has come to turn the old house over to the Historical Society to keep for ever. A few things that I want is the building moved off of the land and the main sewer line not to be disturbed., A marker to be put where the sewer line hook up to the old house and there is three places for that. I also want the basement to filled in with dirt and allowed for shrink- age and all debris to be removed off the property. I need to be notified 60 days in advance in order for me to give my tenants 30 day notice to vacate and time for me to dispose of furn- ishings within the apartments. I would like a brass plate put on the old house after it is preserved with my name, my wife and +he four children engraved on it as to who donated the building. All of these things I have mentioned is to be done without any expense charged to me. 'I would like to be present when this letter. is read at your meeting, ¢S/incerely yr~o/urs, 'O~n A~ Hoy 47.29 t~uapaw Avenue 'Pel. 275-2567 San Diego, Calif. 92117 1
