ESTATE AND'DIRECTIONAL SIGNS (Continued from February 11,
1986) - Greg L. Rowe, Executive Officer, South San Diego Bay
Cities Board Of Realtors, 588 "L" Street, Chula Vista 92011
Mr. Gordon Boltz, 432 Stoneridge Court, Bonita 92002, Chairman of
the Government and Politi.cal Affairs Committee of the South San
Diego Bay Cities Board of Realtors, stated no provision exists in
the City's sign ordinance which allows for the use of off-premise,
temporary real estate open house/directional signs in residential
areas. Additionally, he discussed: open houses used as marketing
resale homes; survey of over 10,000 Board of Realtors members
regarding the use of directional signs; buyers have a
pre-determined area in which they wish to reside; Board of
Realtors recognizes purpose of sign ordinance to prevent unsightly
sign clutter and is in support of that objective; proposed
revisions to the ordinance which will allow the use of off-premise
real estate open house signs.
Mr. Bill Gildnet, 588 "L" Street, Chula Vista 92011, President of
the South San Diego Bay Cities Board of Realtors, proposed the
following revisions to the current sign ordinance: signs may only
be placed on private property with the consent of the owner; signs
shall be displayed only during daylight hours; allowable maximum
size of signs should be four sq. ft.; no more than one sign
allowed per residential property except on corner lots, in which
case two such signs shall be permitted; temporary signs shall
maintain a three-foot setback from all property lines.
