HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1977/03/24 MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA Held Thursday - 4:00 p.m. March 24, 1977 An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, California was held on the above date beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Conference Room, City Hall, 276 Fourth Avenue, with the following Councilmen present: Mayor Scott, Councilmen Hyde, Cox, Egdahl, Hobel Councilmen absent: None Staff present: City Manager Cole, Director of Public Works Robens, Administrative Assistant Boyd, Director of Building and Housing Grady Also present: Nancy Manes and Jean Eppley of Brenda Mason Design Associates, San Diego; and Donald R. Goldman of Goldman and Associates, Architects, San Diego 1. DISCUSSION OF FURNITURE Director of Public Works Robens outlined some of the AND COLOR SCHEMES FOR main concerns that the Council wished to consider in the ~tE NEW COUNCIL CHAMBERS interior design and functions of the new Council Chambers. AND DEPARTMENTAL OFFICES Nancy Manes of Brenda Mason Design Associates presented Samples of floor and detailed diagrams showing the Council Chambers, dais, wall treatments lounge, overflow section/conference room, and public exhibited areas. She described the suggested floor and wall treat- ments - a combination of tile and carpeting for the floor; spray plaster and natural light oak veneer for the walls, with the veneer as a backdrop to curve around behind the dais. The color scheme included shades of rust, bronze and white. Two-level dais The dais with bronze base and natural oak finish was designed on two levels - the Council desks to be on the upper level and the staff desks on the lower level, with a 6 inch gallery to conceal papers and water glasses. A recessed strip across the dais will contain name plates and lights for voting display (in addition to the wall voting display). Leather and fabric High-backed adjustable leather chairs were suggested for covered chairs the Council with matching low-backed chairs for the staff on the lower level. Auditorium seating will be fabric covered chairs in rust color. (Samples will be submitted to Council for approval.) Lounge for conference The Council discussed the suggested lounge arrangement and executive sessions and concurred that the room should be designed for con-  ference and executive session use. Motion for large It was moved by Councilman Hyde, seconded by Mayor Scott conference table and unanimously carried that the lounge should have a table to easily accommodate eight persons, and if space is available, additional occasional chairs (with no couch or sofa). The wall treatment in the lounge will be the natural oak wall covering. The windows throughout will have light control with horizontal, very thin Levolor blinds re- cessed in one inch headers in the windows for easy maintenance. Adjourned Regular Meeting -2- March 24, 1977 Tiled restrooms Both restroom walls and floors will be tiled (two shades of color to match the lounge colors). Work area described Mr. Goldman described the functional work area in the lounge which will include a sink, undercounter refriger- ator and drawers, cabinet with adjustable shelves for storage, and coat closet on one side. Council discussion ensued concerning the clear counter area for work space and the need for a clothes closet. Motion to expand It was moved by Councilman Egdahl, seconded by Councilman work area Hyde and unanimously carried that the width of the clothes closet be shortened to expand the counter space. Overflow/conference Miss Manos outlined the suggestions for the combination room overflow/conference or meeting room, tying it in with the Council Chambers by keeping the same carpet and wall treatment. The chairs will be fabric covered stack chairs to be stored when not in use. This room also has a counter area with a sink, storage space and folding screen. Folding tables will also be available for use in the conference room. Recording equipment The recording equipment, lights and timer will be mon- and lights monitored itored from the City Clerk's desk. by City Clerk The Council briefly discussed interior landscaping plans with live plants, but no decision was made.
