HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2006-020 RESOLUTION NO. 2006-020 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA A WARDING PURCHASING AGREEMENTS TO FISHER SAFETY SCIENTIFIC AS MAYBE REQUIRED FOR SAFETY SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT WHEREAS, the City of San Diego is the designated Urban Area Security Initiative Grant (UASI) Coordinator for San Diego Region; and WHEREAS, the Disaster Preparedness Manager is the designated agency coordinator for UASI grant funds; and WHEREAS, the City ofChula Vista is eligible to receive $175,214 from the UASI Fiscal Year 2006 equipment grant; and WHEREAS, these funds will be used to complete the outfitting of first responders: Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with chemical resistant personnel protective equipment (PPE) and purchase radiation detection devices for Fire, Police and Public Works Operations; and WHEREAS, PPE includes a chemical resistant suit with hood, chemical resistant gloves, booties, and tape, a MSA Millennium Mask with carrying case, cartridge and canister, equipment bag and self contained breathing apparatus where applicable; and WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista Municipal Code Section 2.56.140 authorizes the Purchasing Agent to participate in cooperative arrangements with other governmental agencies for the acquisition of equipment purchased through a competitive process; and WHEREAS, the City of San Diego and County of San Diego have formally awarded contracts to Fisher Safety Scientific for purchase of first responder personnel protective equipment; and WHEREAS, the State of California has recently announced a new procurement program through Fisher Scientific; and .' WHEREAS, the program will offer reduced pricing, shorter procurement times and online ordering; and WHEREAS, the Fiscal Year 2006 UASI grant requires all personnel protective equipment purchases be made by the end of October 2006; and WHEREAS, both Police and Fire have purchased previous personnel protective equipment from Fisher Scientific; and Resolution No. 2006-020 Page 2 WHEREAS, awarding purchasing agreements to Fisher Scientific would expedite the purchasing process and maintain equipment uniformity; and WHEREAS, the City Disaster Preparedness Manager recommends this as a positive step in getting the City ready for a terrorist attack. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby award purchasing agreements as may be required to Fisher Safety Scientific for safety supplies and equipment.
