RESOLUTION NO.
11551
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA APPROVING EXTENSION OF THE PARAMEDIC SERVICE
CONTRACT AND RATE SCHEDULE AMENDMENT FOR MEDTRANS
(DBA HARTSON'S AMBULANCE SERVICE)
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the present two-year paramedic service contract
with MedTrans (dba Hartson's Ambulance Service) terminated on
December 8, 1983, and
WHEREAS, it is the intention of staff to go out to bid
before entering into a new contract for paramedic service, and
WHEREAS, it is staff's recommendation that we extend the
current contract for the interim period before a new contract can
be awarded, and
WHEREAS, due to recent changes in Medicare reimbursement
policies, it is no longer possible for hospitals to bill Medicare
for supplies used in paramedic care, and
WHEREAS, the paramedic agencies will now have to bill for
the cost of these supplies, and
WHEREAS, Hartson's is requesting an amendment in the fee
schedule that would allow them to charge cost plus 77% for
disposable supplies and drugs administered to patients during
prehospital paramedic care.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Chula Vista does hereby approve the amended agreement
attached as Exhibit "A" which extends the contract for paramedic
service to September 8, 1984.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby
approve the amendment to the agreement which authorizes the
increase in the fee schedule that would allow Hartson's to charge
cost plus 77% for disposable drugs and supplies that are
administered to patients during prehospital paramedic care.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that staff is authorized to
initiate the RFP process for paramedic service.
