HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2004-278 RESOLUTION NO. 2004-278 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROVING THE RENEWAL OF THE AGREEMENT WITH THE SWEETWATER UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE JOINT USE OF THE LIBRARY FACILITY AT EASTLAKE LIBRARY WHEREAS, in August 1993, the City and Sweetwater Union High School District entered into a three-year agreement to jointly provide library service at Eastlake High School; and WHEREAS, in June 1999, the agreement was renewed for a third three-year period; and WHEREAS, the renewal agreement continues on the same basic premises as the previous agreements; and WHEREAS, the Eastlake Library has remained open to the public while the new agreement was being negotiated; and WHEREAS, both parties agree to make reasonable efforts to maintain and enrich the book collection; and WHEREAS, both parties also agree to allow all patrons equal access to all library materials, regardless of jurisdiction or ownership; and WHEREAS, neither party shall remove, label or prohibit access to any library material owned by the other party; and WHEREAS, both parties further agree to staff the Library facility with qualified, competent, professional, and team oriented employees that will strive to provide excellent customer service, work cooperatively, and keep the best interests of the students and public as their nwnber one priority; and WHEREAS, the terms of the renewal agreement expire on June 30, 2006 with two (2) one-year options to renew the agreement, which are to exercised by June 30th of each year beginning in 2006; and WHEREAS, on August 16, 2004, the Board of the Sweetwater Union High School District voted to approve the renewal agreement; and WHEREAS, in Fiscal Year 2004/2005, a budget of $208,144 has been appropriated by the City to operate the Eastlake Library in accordance with the terms of the renewal agreement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista hereby approves the renewal of the agreement with the Sweetwater Union High School District for the joint use of the Library Facility at Eastlake Library for a two-year period ending June 30, 2006, with two (2) one-year options to renew, a copy of which shall be kept on file in the office of the City Clerk.
