RESOLUTION 788 APPROVING THE APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS TO DEFER COSTS OF CITY PARTICIPATION HI NAUTICAL HERITAGE DAY (Director of Parks & Recreation) The event will consist of the following activities: displays of nautical memorabilia, food and beverage booth, commercial arts and crafts exhibits, game booths, and entertainment throughout the day. In order for the City to participate at the level requested by the Chamber of Commerce, an appropriation of $5,705.00 is required. The following is an itemized breakdown of participation costs by department: 1. Parks and Recreation Department Overtime Parks Division personnel Part-time Recreation personnel Rental of portable toilets (8) Contract First Aid Station Misc. equipment/supplies $ 240.00 372.00 400.00 30.00 50.00 318.00 150.00 145.00 4,000.00 $5,705.00 2. TOTAL ESTIMATED EXPENDITURES - 2 - t1arch 10,1987 Redevelopment Agency Minutes A total of $5,705.00 is required for City participation in this event. Funds would need to be appropriated from the unappropri ated bal ance of the Bayfront/Town Centre I Bond Fund to account 990-9907-5222, Promotions. Member Mal colm noted that hi s only request was to try to get the America's Cup down here for Nautical Heritage Day on April 11, 1987. He has a friend who owns a yacht (Stars & Stripes) and indicated that if the City could get this boat down here along with the America's Cup, it would be very unique for the April 11 event. There is a cost; however, in moving the boat down here--at least another $4,000 should be added to the appropriation. MSUC (Malcolm/Moore) to increase the appropriation amount by an additional $4,000 contingent upon the America's Cup and the boat coming down here on April 11. Public Information Coordinator Mark Cox remarked that the Cup and the boat would certainly increase public awareness in coming to the Bayfront on that day. Chairman Cox declared that the dedication Beach will also take place on this day. of the Baysi de Sandy Mr. Ric Williams, representing the Chamber of Commerce, said that the total cost of moving the boat would be about $4,000 to $5,000 if it is not on a trailer. However, if it is already on a trailer, the cost will be less. DIRECTOR'S REPORT CHAIRMAN'S REPORT None. 4. 5. MEMBERS' COMMENTS a. Member Malcolm asked for a report on the signalization at Third and "F" Street, stating that timewise, the signals are quite off. The left turn lanes get backed up for quite a long time because they have to wait for two cycles of lights to go through. He would like a report on this at the next Redevelopment Agency meeting. Member Nader said he also received complaints that motorists, after waiting for these lights, get impatient and start speeding down "F" Street. Coastal Commission Sierra Club v. Marsh Evergreen v. Chula Vista Chula Vista v. Merziotis Bay Firefighters v. Montgomery (Chula and Items of Potential Litigation Vista) South b. Chairman Cox noted that because of his commitments to the League of California Cities, he will not be present at next Thursday's meeting, March 19, and if they want items to be continued to a full Council, staff can report this at next Tuesday's Council meeting.
