Unlike the provisions of exiting through an adjoining room
the occupant load which exits through a horizontal exit need
not be included when calculating the exit requirements for
the room which is receiving the occupants.
This benefit is based on the fact that by exiting through
the two-hour wall and into a compartment away from the
fire or other hazard, occupants would either be able to
remain in that area until the hazard has been controlled, or
until the orderly use of the remaining exits is possible.
