POLICE DEPARTMENT
August 30, 2001
Dear Colleague:
We at the Chula Vista Police Department are very proud to share with you our
year 2000 Annual Report. This report provides an overview of our organization
and highlights some of our many accomplishments occurring in 2000. In an
effort to keep our community informed, we have changed the format to include a
three-fold cover, which contains current information about the Department, and
our Community. As you will read in the cover, the City is a vibrant growing
community of 175,000 with numerous attractions and opportunities. It is the
second largest City in San Diego County and home to the U.S. Olympic Training
Center, the Coors Amphitheater, Knott's Soak City and many other businesses
and attractions.
Our strong Community Oriented Policing and Problem Oriented Policing
philosophies help preserve the quality of life as the City continues to grow.
Further, the addition of units like Technology, Research and Evaluation,
Community Relations and Tough on Crime enables the department to meet the
challenge of addressing changing social and crime trends, These programs
coupled with changes in deployment strategies allow the department to be more
effective and address future growth. Showing a significant commitment to law
enforcement the City Council, City Management and the Community have
authorized construction of a new police facility. This is in addition to the new
Animal Care Facility, which will open in the fall of this year. Artist's renderings of
both facilities are included in the Annual Report as a prelude to our exciting
future.
I welcome any comments or feedback on our new format, programs and
services. Additional copies may be obtained by contacting our Community
Relations Sergeant at (619) 409-5466 or Research & Development at (619) 409-
5467.
