HomeMy WebLinkAboutRCC AGENDA PK 2002/03/04 Titk: CHULA VISTA: HISTORIC PRESERVATIONIST OF THE YEAR A WARD Sponsmrxi and juri£d by: Chula Vista Resource Conservation Commission Goals: 1) To recognize individual or group achievements that promulgate historic preservation in Chula Vista 2) To support and encourage local historic preservation efforts 3) To increase public awareness of the mission and duties of the Resource Conservation Commission regarding local historic resources. E ligjbiliry,' 1) Any individual or group associated with Chula Vista who has been personally involved in or has spearheaded a qualifying activity. 2) The accomplishments of the awardees must have either taken place within the boundaries of Chula Vista, or have impacted the City in some way. Examples of Cþalifying Activities 1) Restoration - accurately recovering the form and details of a property as it appeared at a particular period in time by removing later work and replacing missing original work with an emphasis on historic accuracy, 2) Rehabilitation or Adaptive Re-U se - the act or process of making possible the continued historic use of a property through repair, alteration, and additions while preserving those portions or features which convey its historical, cultural, or architectural values; to include rehabilitation that converts a structure to a compatible use other than the one for which it was originally constructed. 3) Preservation through Stabilization - the process of sustaining the form and extent of a structure essentially as it now exists, with the goal to halt further deterioration and provide structural stability, but without significant rebuilding. 4) Additions to Historic Structures and Contextual In-Fill Projects - including new additions, exterior alterations and compatible free-standing new construction, adjacent or in relation to, historic structures. Such work should reflect the compatibility of new work with historic structures in regard to matters of size, scale, architectural features and the protections of the historic character of the property and its contextual surroundings. 5) Cultural Resource Studies, Planning, Reports, Projects, Computer Software - Creative, innovative, or precedent -setting approaches to technological and preservation planning issues, educational or public awareness or advancement of historic resources (architectural, archeological or cultural). 6) Craftsmanship - Outstanding workmanship carried out in a project such as those specified above including excellence in craftsmanship pertaining to a single element of an overall project. 7) Archaeological and Cultural Landscapes - including the scientific study and preservation of the vestigial remains of previous cultures and societies. To include the documentation, stabilization or interpretation of the material remnants of structures associated with past human life and activities; to include the preservation or restoration of a natural or manmade landscape environment having particular historical significance either through its integral contribution to the context of a qualified property or district, or in its own right.
