HomeMy WebLinkAboutrda min 1981/07/23 MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA Th~rsday, July 23, 1981 - 4:00 p.m. Council Conference Room - City Hall ROLL CALL MEMBERS PRESENT Chairman Hyde; Members Gillow, Cox, McCandliss, Scott Members Absent None STAFF PRESENT Executive Director Cole, Agency Attorney Lindberg, Community Development Director Desrochers, Redevelop- ment Coordinator legler, Development Services Admin- istrator Robens, Development Specialist Kassman ALSO PRESENT David Nuffer, Kerry Tucker, Valerie Lemke, Niek Slijk At this time the meeting was adjourned to the special City Council meeting (4:06 p.m.) The Redevelopment Agency meeting reconvened at 4:20 p.m. ITEM NO.2 - RESOLUTION NO. 312 - AWARDING CONTRACT FOR THE PROVISION OF PUBLIC RELATIONS AND RELATED SERVICES TO NUFFER/SMITH ASSOCIATES, A PROFESSIONAL PUBLIC RELATIONS FIRM A selection committee recently reviewed public relations proposals from four San Diego area consulting firms. Representatives of each firm were also interviewed. Community Development Director Desrochers acknowledged the presence of representatives of the recommended firm, Nuffer/Smith. Also present was Niek Slijk, representing the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Desrochers briefly stated that the recommended con- sulting firm would work closely with the Chamber in order that the work product is consistent with both the City and Chamber's goals. It was suggested that an Agency workshop be held following the first phase of the consultant's work. DAVID NUFFER, PRESIDENT NUFFER/SMITH ASSOC IATES 2560 First Avenue Building Suite 103 San Diego, CA 921O3 Mr. Nuffer introduced his associates, Kerry Tucker and Valerie Lemke, who also will be working in conjunction with Chula Vista's promotional campaign. In response to Member Scott's question, Mr. Desrochers commented that staff would like to see the turnaround of the corporate business community's attitude towards the City. He cited the instance with El Torito's initial impression of the City. The director, referring to his report to the Agency, pointed out that the public relations firm's goals are to provide professional advice, assemble a slide presen- tation, and prepare a speakers' bureau. 7/23/81 Adjourned Regular Meeting - Redevelopment Agency ~- July 23, 1981 In answer to Member McCandliss' concern, Mr. Slijk remarked that the anticipated coordination of consultant and Chamber would be most advantageous. RESOLUTION OFFERED by Member Gillow, the reading of the text was waived by unani- mous consent, passed and adopted unanimously. ADJOURNMENT at 4:40 p.m. to Closed Session to discuss Bayfront litigation and the regular meeting of August 6, 1981. ~ 7/23/81
