RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING GRANT FUNDS FROM THE
CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL FOR THE CANNABIS
TAX FUND GRANT PROGRAM AND AMENDING THE
FISCAL YEAR 2026-27 BUDGET TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS
THEREFOR
WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista, on behalf of the Chula Vista Police Department, has
been awarded $439,974.82 in grant funding (“Grant Funds”) from the California Highway Patrol
for the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program (“Program”); and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Program is to educate the public regarding the dangers of
impaired driving, enforce impaired driving laws on the roadway, and improve the agency’s
effectiveness through training and development of new strategies; and
WHEREAS, the Grant Funds will be used for enhanced training for Police Department
personnel to increase their abilities to detect, enforce, and educate the community regarding the
impairment of driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs; and
WHEREAS, the Grant Funds will also be used to conduct DUI checkpoints and saturation
patrols, purchase alcohol screening devices, and attend traffic safety conferences; and
WHEREAS, the Grant Funds provided by the California Highway Patrol will completely
offset the total costs of this Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista,
that it accepts $439,974.82 in grant funds from the California Highway Patrol and amends the Fiscal
Year 2026-27 budget by appropriating $426,432.00 to the Personnel category and $13,542.82 to the
Supplies and Services category in the Police Grants section of the State Grants Fund.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that the
City Manager is authorized to enter into and execute any and all associated grant agreements and
subsequent amendments, extensions, or renewals necessary and appropriate to implement this
resolution, in such form as may be required or approved by the City Attorney, and directs that
copies of such documents be kept on file with the Office of the City Clerk.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that the
City Manager is authorized to take all necessary action to administer, monitor, manage, and ensure
compliance with the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program requirements, including certifications
made in the grant application, and further to enter into and execute contracts with third-parties to
implement the grant or use of the funds, as appropriate and in such form as may be required or
approved by the City Attorney, and directs that copies of such documents be kept on file with the
Office of the City Clerk.
