ACTION ITEMS Page 6 of 13 City of Chula Vista Veterans Advisory Commission October 16, 2025 Agenda 2 6.1 Approval of the Veterans Advisory Commission Annual Activities Report 2024 - 2025 Moved by Commissioner Nava Seconded by Commissioner Williams Approval of the Annual Activities Report of 2024 - 2025 Result: Carried Unanimously 6.2 Appointment of new Chair and Vice Chair for the FY of 2025 -2026 - Commissioners voted Nava as new Chair and Akana as Vice Chair for the 2025 - 2026 fiscal year. Moved by Commissioner Jimenez Seconded by Commissioner Williams Select the new Chair and Vice Chair for 2025 - 2026 6.3 Identification and Discussion of FY 2025 -2026 Goals and Objectives Moved by Commissioner Nava Seconded by Vice Chair Akana Commission to keep last year's objectives with no modifications. Yes (5): Vice Chair Akana, Commissioner Jimenez, Commissioner Nava, Chair Stewart, and Commissioner Williams Result: Carried Unanimously 6.4 Update on Outreach Subcommittee - No update. 6.5 Update on Veteran of the Year Subcommittee - Vice Chair Akana thanked Chair Nava for creating a flyer that promotes the Veteran of the Year Award. - Liaison Martinez will work with the Communications team to upload the flyer to City's socials. - Secretary Aguilar is working with City Clerk to get a date to announce the recipient. Page 7 of 13 City of Chula Vista Veterans Advisory Commission October 16, 2025 Agenda 3 - Commissioner Jimenez will secure the color guard for the City Council meeting. - Vice Chair Akana suggested to invite the previous winners and nominated people to the meeting. 6.6 Update on Military Reintegration Program Subcommittee - Chair Nava is working on coordinating meetings at City's libraries with the San Diego Coalition. OTHER BUSINESS 7. STAFF COMMENTS - Secretary Aguilar let the commission know that Commissioner Pine has received her letter of extension. 8. CHAIR'S COMMENTS - Chair Nava thanked everyone for their support in being the new Chair and expressed gratitude for having the subcommittees. 9. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS - Commissioner Jimenez inquired about the process for city facilities to establish discounted fees for veterans. - Commissioner Stewart responded to this by offering to have an agenda item for this request. Normally, research is not done before requesting for this initiative. - Commissioner Jimenez expressed interest in having an agenda item to propose the city's golf course to give a veteran discount. 10. Result: Carried Unanimously 6.4 Update on Outreach Subcommittee - Commissioner Pine mentioned that she is working with Commissioner Stewart to get a table for the Veterans Home Christmas event. - Commissioner Castro will discuss graphics with her. 6.5 Update on Veteran of the Year Subcommittee - Commissioner Pine brought the idea of celebrating the recipient at the Memorial Bowl ceremony. - Commissioner Williams proposed having the Commission walk the Starlight Parade. Page 12 of 13 City of Chula Vista Veterans Advisory Commission October 16, 2025 Agenda 3 - Commissioner Jimenez offered to have the same unit of color guard for the City Council meeting where they will be presenting the recipient. 6.6 Update on Military Reintegration Program Subcommittee - Chair Nava reached out to Mr. Stark from the Veterans Coalition to inquire about the Military Reintegration Program and how the commission can help with it. OTHER BUSINESS 7. STAFF COMMENTS - Secretary Aguilar notified the commissioners of the steps to get the proclamation for the recipient of the Veteran of the Year for the November 4 Council meeting. 8. CHAIR'S COMMENTS - No comments. 9. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS - Commissioner Williams reminded Commissioner Pine to get the contact for the ROTC. - Commissioner Pine expressed her interest in the San Diego Veterans Parade. 10.
