1. CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Veterans Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista
was called to order at 6:06 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Secretary Aguilar called the roll.
3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG
4. PUBLIC COMMENTS
- Anika
- She has been a commissioner for the Homeless Commission for 8 years and is
interested in joining the Veterans Advisory Commission.
5. PRESENTATIONS
- No presentations.
6. ACTION ITEMS

6.1 Approval of the Veterans Advisory Commission Annual Activities
Report 2024 - 2025
Moved by Commissioner Nava
Seconded by Commissioner Williams
Approval of the Annual Activities Report of 2024 - 2025
Result: Carried Unanimously
6.2 Appointment of new Chair and Vice Chair for the FY of 2025 -2026
- Commissioners voted Nava as new Chair and Akana as Vice Chair for
the 2025 - 2026 fiscal year.

Seconded by Commissioner Williams
Select the new Chair and Vice Chair for 2025 - 2026
6.3 Identification and Discussion of FY 2025 -2026 Goals and Objectives
Moved by Commissioner Nava
Seconded by Vice Chair Akana
Commission to keep last year's objectives with no modifications.
Result: Carried Unanimously
6.4 Update on Outreach Subcommittee
- No update.
6.5 Update on Veteran of the Year Subcommittee
- Vice Chair Akana thanked Chair Nava for creating a flyer that promotes
the Veteran of the Year Award.
- Liaison Martinez will work with the Communications team to upload the
flyer to City's socials.
- Secretary Aguilar is working with City Clerk to get a date to announce the
recipient.

- Commissioner Jimenez will secure the color guard for the City Council
meeting.
- Vice Chair Akana suggested to invite the previous winners and
nominated people to the meeting.
6.6 Update on Military Reintegration Program Subcommittee
- Chair Nava is working on coordinating meetings at City's libraries with
the San Diego Coalition.
OTHER BUSINESS
7. STAFF COMMENTS
- Secretary Aguilar let the commission know that Commissioner Pine has
received her letter of extension.
8. CHAIR'S COMMENTS
- Chair Nava thanked everyone for their support in being the new Chair and
expressed gratitude for having the subcommittees.
9. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS
- Commissioner Jimenez inquired about the process for city facilities to establish
discounted fees for veterans.
- Commissioner Stewart responded to this by offering to have an agenda item for
this request. Normally, research is not done before requesting for this initiative.
- Commissioner Jimenez expressed interest in having an agenda item to propose
the city's golf course to give a veteran discount.
10. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
