HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2025-192RESOLUTION NO. 2025-192 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA NAMING THE PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROJECT AT 1160 WALNUT AVENUE “PALOMAR POINT” WHEREAS, in October 2023, pursuant to Council Resolution No. 2023-108, the City of Chula Vista (“City”) acquired the property, inclusive of the former Palomar Motel, located at 1160 Walnut Avenue (the “Project”), for the purpose of converting it to Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for people experiencing homelessness; and WHEREAS, on February 20, 2024, the City selected Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation, through a competitive process, to serve as developer overseeing the rehabilitation and long-term management of the Project, pursuant to Council Resolution No. 2024-031; and WHEREAS, in May 2025, the City and Wakeland jointly applied for a grant through the Homekey+ program, administered by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (“HCD”), pursuant to Council Resolution No. 2025-028; and WHEREAS, in September 2025, the City was successfully awarded $8,610,000 in Homekey+ funds and the Chula Vista Housing Authority contributed an additional $3,000,000 in Low- and Moderate-Income Housing Asset Fund (the “Low-Mod Fund”) funds, pursuant to Housing Authority Resolution No. 2025-027, to complete the Project’s financing; and WHEREAS, the Project will provide 27 affordable housing units for individuals experiencing homelessness, including seven units set aside for veterans, along with supportive services and an on-site manager; and WHEREAS, the rehabilitation of the Project includes accessibility upgrades, life safety improvements, and major system renovations to ensure safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for Very Low and Extremely Low-Income residents; and WHEREAS, the City has implemented a public engagement and evaluation process in accordance with Policy No. 470-01, City Asset Naming and Renaming; and WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the top proposed names and deems it appropriate to select an official Project name that reflects the City’s history, culture, and identity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that it has considered the proposed names and hereby adopts the official name for the Permanent Supportive Housing Project at 1160 Walnut Avenue of “Palomar Point.” Docusign Envelope ID: 670B7CF4-3210-474D-86A1-54B44A5D637E Resolution No. 2025-192 Page No. 2 Presented by Approved as to form by Stacey Kurz Marco A.
