REGULAR MEETING OF THE VETERANS ADVISORY COMMISSION
Meeting Minutes
March 19, 2025, 6:00 p.m.
City Hall, Bldg. C, Conference Room B-111

1. CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Veterans Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 6:02 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Secretary Aguilar called the roll.
3. PUBLIC COMMENTS
- Robert
- Referred to other City commissions.
4. PRESENTATIONS
4.1 MILITARY RE-INTEGRATION STARR AND ONWARD OPS PROGRAMS
- Speaker presented about the program he works for which helps veterans find jobs after their duty on the military.
5. ACTION ITEMS
5.1 APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF JANUARY 15, 2025
Moved by Commissioner Nava
Seconded by Commissioner Jimenez
Commission to approve the meeting minutes.
Result: Carried Unanimously
5.2 UPDATE ON OUTREACH SUBCOMMITEE
- No update.
5.3 UPDATE ON VETERAN OF THE YEAR SUBCOMMITEE
- Commissioner Akana showed the subcommittee's timeline sheet, stating that the VOTY applications needs to go live this month. Commission to review applications in August regular meeting.
- Present winner of the award in the October or November City Council meeting.
- Commissioner Stewart wants to do a celebratory event for the winner where all nominees get invited plus other veteran organizations. The local 'Umbrella' media can provide an article
about it for free.
5.4 UPDATE ON MILITARY REINTEGRATION PROGRAM SUBCOMMITEE
- Goal of the subcommittee is to invite City Council to vent of the program.

- No comments.
7. CHAIR'S COMMENTS
- Commissioner Stewart is happy to have subcommittees created.
8. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS
- Commissioner Jimenez asked about ways to promote the VOTY application.
- Commissioner Akana asked to do the pledge of allegiance for every meeting.
- Commissioner Jimenez proposed to send letters of appreciation from the commission plus the mayor for the color guard.
9. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
