MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOABD OF TRUSTEES, CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA,
HELD AUGUST 5, 1924.
!rile Board met in regu.lar session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall. on the
above date. with President Peters in the ohair. Order called at 7:00 p.m. Present:
Trustees Peters, Bent, Shaw. Wentworth and Lyons.
READING OF MINUTES: !rile minutes of the last regular meeting of July I, 1924, and
adjourned regular meeting of July 9th, 14th and 25th, and August 1,1924. were read
and approved as read and corrected.

8tn_aL1ffi ON THÍRD AVENUE: Yr, George E. Geyer asked the Board what action is
being taken on ordering in sidewalks on Third Avenue. He was advised that this ac-
tion was being withheld until certain pieces of land Raà tc be deeded to the city
had been so deeded before any action will be taken.
PIER AT CORNADO: Yr. A. F. Pratt solicited the Board for a contribution to
the fund new being raised for the construction of a pier at Coranado, to accommodate
the battleship fleet of the Pacific, U.S.Navy. No action taken.
S1IIBEET SUPERINTElIDENT. VACATION FOR: Street Superintendent Schraeder asked for
a vacation to become effective when he cculd get hie work in proper shape to leave it.
Referred to the street committee with authority to act. upon motion by Yr. Lyons.
seconded by Yr. Shaw, which carried.
PROFILE OF G STREET: The city engineer presented a profile of G Street from
Sixth Avenue to Bay Boulevard, mow the new grade established. Upon motion by Yr.
Bent. seconded by Yr. Shaw, the profile was acc~ted and approved by the following
vote, to-wit: AYES: Trustees Bent, Peters, Shaw, Lyons, Wentworth. NOES: None.
Absent: None.
GRADE ON BAY BOULEVARD: The city engineer was instructed to establish a
grade on Bay Boulevard, by profile, from the northern to the southern city limits,
upon motion by Yr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Shaw. which carried by the follewing
vote: AYES: Trustees Wentworth. Bent, Peters. Shaw, Lyons. NOES: None. ABSENT: None.
BUILDINGS LOCATED IN STREET ON NATIONAL AVENUE: The Building Inspector and
the Oi ty Engineer were instructed to prooeed to National Avenue, and order all
building found on that thoroughfare that are situated on or over the street line,
removed to the proper location, upon motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Lyons,
which carried by the following vote: AYES: Trustees Wentworth, Bent. Peters, Shaw, Lyons.
NOES: None. ABSENT: None. ~
DELINQUENT TA.~S. SALE OF LOTS: The clerk repo ted that he had received no
bids at the sale of certain pieces of real estate that d been advertised for sale
for delinquent taxes. Clerk directed to continue the sale and sell the lots in ques-
tion, getting a sum for each that is equal to the total amount due for taxes and costs.
LEAGUE OF MUNIOIPALITIES. DINNER TO: The olerkwas instructed tc write the Woman's
Club of this city, the appreciation and thanks for the excellent dinner served by that
orgeinization, at the meeting of the League, held here August 1,1924.

STREET SIGNS ON NATIONAL AVENUE: Trustees Shaw introduced the subject of the
street signs on National Avenue at the intersections of E and J Streets. He stated
that numerous complaints a~e being made to the effect that the signs indicate that
Ohula Vista one mile distant from the pcints where the signs are located. when in fact
the signs are in the city proper. The question of having the signs painted to show
that it is one mile to the business district of the city, was discussed, but not
decided. The clerk was directed td take up the matter of obtaining city limit signs
for the north and south limits of the city, with the Southern California Automobile
Club.
CITY REOORDER. INCREASE IN SALARY ,ASKED: An application from the city recorder
for an increase in salary from $55.00 to $100.00 per month, was read. Held over for
consideration when making up the budget for the ensuing year.
WAGES FOR STREET EMPLOYES: The street comittee stated that it would report on
a schedule of wages to be paid to all street employees, including truck and tractor
drivers, at the next meeting.
LIBRARY TAX RATE: The city attorney reported that according to law the
emount that could be collected as taxes for the support of the City Library. is
three mills on each dollar of assessed valuation of the tax assessment for any
year.

D~Y TAX COLJÆOTOR: The fact that the city marshal, bylaw, is the
official city tax collector, and that his duties as marshal will not permit him to
perform that duty creditably, the city marshal was instructed to app~int thé.city
clerk as deputy tax collector. and said city clerk to receive $100.cro:10"~"t~"!I'
extra service involved, which does not pertain to his work as city clerk. This
action was covered by motion by Mr. Lyons. seconded by Mr. Wentworth, which car-
ried by the following vote, to~it: AYES: Trustees Lyons. Wentworth, Bent. Peters,
Shaw. NOES: None. ABSE1'T: None.
SPRI1TKLER FOR PLAZA: The clerk was instructed to purchase another 20-foot
section of sprinkler pipe for the plaza, and t~ work of sprinkling to be turned over
to the nightwatchman, upon motion by Yr. Wentworth. s eoonded by Mr. Shaw, which
carried.

ADDITIONAL DEPUTY MARSHAL: Trustees Shaw and Lyons were instructed to work
out a schedule of duties of a deputy marshal, to be appointed, to assist the mar-
shal in traffic work, take regular turns in relieving the nightwatcbman and
permanent fireman. on certain days each week.
STREET LIGHTS IN FRONT OF PETERS FEED STORE: The clerk was directed to
order the street lights authorized for the front of Peters Feed Store, at the
meeting of July 14,1924. to connected for service, on the city's contract,

pASSAGE OF ORDINANCE NO. 110: Upon motion by Mr. Shaw. seconded by Yr.
Lyons. Ordinance No. 110, being an ordinance providing for licenses for certain
business. ete., was placed on its second and final reading. The motion carried
by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Trustees Shaw. Lyons, Wentworth, Bent. Peters.
NOES: None. ABSE1'T: None. The ordinance was read, and. was passed. adopted and
approved as read, upon motion by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Yr. Lyons;tmich carried
by the following vote. t o-wi t: AYES: Trustees Shaw, Lyons, Wentworth, Bent, Peters,
NOES: None. ABSENT: None.

TRIMMING TREES BY GAS AND ELECTRIC CO.: Street superintendent reported that
the San Diego Gas and Eleotrio Company had trimmed a tree on I Street, between
National and Bay Boulevard, and that there was no permission granted for so doing.
City Clerk directed to write the Gas and Electric Company and ask if that oompa~
has any explanation to make. and to report later.
PERIODICAL REPORTS: The monthly report of the City Recorder, for the month
Of July, 1924. was read, and upon motion by Yr. Wentworth. seconded by Yr. Shaw.
the report was accepted and ordered filed.
ADJOURNMENT: Upon motion by Yr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Lyons, the Board
adjourned to 7:30 p.m., August 19,1924.
