Each person will be allotted three minutes to address the Commission. Electronic Public Comments: At  www.chulavistaca.gov/boardmeetings, locate this meeting and click on the comment bubble icon. Select the item and click on "Leave Comment." The deadline to submit e-comments or any comments emailed to VAC@chulavistaca.gov will be noon on the day of the meeting. Result: Carried Unanimously 5.3 UPDATE ON OUTREACH SUBCOMMITEE - Secretary and liaison to arrange a meeting for the subcommittee with Communications manager. 5.4 UPDATE ON VETERAN OF THE YEAR SUBCOMMITEE - Commissioner Akana proposed a date to have the application up on the website. 5.5 UPDATE ON MILITARY REINTEGRATION PROGRAM SUBCOMMITEE - Commissioners Williams, Akana and Jimenez went over program's paperwork and timeline. 5.6 DEDICATED VETERAN SECTION IN MILLENIA LIBRARY - Commissioner Pine proposed to perform research in Chula Vista libraries and offer support to improve Veteran wings. Moved by Lynne Pine Seconded by Nimpa Akana Commission to support and appeal for the library to include a section for the Veterans. Result: Carried Unanimously 5.7 PREPARATION FOR MEMORIAL DAY - Commissioner Akana proposed a color guard at the May City Council meeting. PUBLIC COMMENTS - Robert - Referred to other City commissions. 4. PRESENTATIONS 4.1 MILITARY RE-INTEGRATION STARR AND ONWARD OPS PROGRAMS - Speaker presented about the program he works for which helps veterans find jobs after their duty on the military. ACTION ITEMS 5.1 APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF JANUARY 15, 2025 Commissioner Nava joined the meeting at 9:58 am. Moved by Commissioner Nava Seconded by Commissioner Jimenez Commission to approve the meeting minutes. Result: Carried Unanimously 5.2 UPDATE ON OUTREACH SUBCOMMITEE - No update. 5.3 UPDATE ON VETERAN OF THE YEAR SUBCOMMITEE - Commissioner Akana showed the subcommittee's timeline sheet, stating that the VOTY applications needs to go live this month. Commission to review applications in August regular meeting. - Present winner of the award in the October or Novem ber City Council meeting. - Commissioner Stewart wants to do a celebratory event for the winner where all nominees get invited plus other veteran organizations. The local 'Umbrella' media can provide an article about it for free. 5.4 UPDATE ON MILITARY REINTEGRATION PROGRAM SUBCOMMITEE - Goal of the subcommittee is to invite City Council to vent of the program. OTHER BUSINESS 6. STAFF COMMENTS - No comments. 7. CHAIR'S COMMENTS - Commissioner Stewart is happy to have subcommittees created. 8. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS - Commissioner Jimenez asked about ways to promote the VOTY application. - Commissioner Akana asked to do the pledge of allegiance for every meeting.
