Health, Wellness, and Aging Commission Regular Meeting
Public Comments: Public comments may be submitted to the Health, Wellness, and Aging
Commission in the following ways:
In-person comments during the meeting. Join us for the Health, Wellness, and Aging
Commission meeting at the time and location specified on this agenda to make your
comments. Each person will be allotted three (3) minutes to address the Commission.

Individuals who use a translator will be allotted twice the amount of time.
The commenting period will close at noon on the day of the meeting. All comments will be made
available to the Commission and the public.

order to access and/or participate in a Health, Wellness, and Aging Commission meeting by

The Commission will enact the Consent Calendar staff recommendations by one
motion, without discussion, unless a Commissioner, member of the public, or staff
requests that an item be removed for discussion. If you wish to speak on any item,
please fill out a "Request to Speak" form and submit it to the Secretary prior to the
meeting or submit an electronic comment per the instructions on page one of this
agenda.

Recommended Action:
Approval of the minutes dated April 10, 2025.
3.2 Consideration Request for Excused Absences 8
Recommended Action:
Communication from Chair Murphy requesting excused absence from the
March 13, 2025 meeting.
4.PUBLIC COMMENTS
Persons may address the Commission on any subject matter within the
Commission’s jurisdiction that is not listed as an item on the agenda. State law
generally prohibits the Commission from discussing or taking action on any issue
not included on the agenda, but, if appropriate, the Commission may schedule the
topic for future discussion or refer the matter to staff. If you wish to speak on any
item, please fill out a "Request to Speak" form and submit it to the Secretary prior
to the meeting.
5.PRESENTATIONS
5.1 Presentation by San Diego County Aging and Independence Services (AIS)9
Intergenerational Coordinator, Pam Plimpton, will present on
Intergenerational activities and programs in the county.
5.2 Presentation by Chula Vista Parks and Recreation 24
Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, Shannon Bullock, will present
on current recreational activites for youth, family, and seniors.

Chair Murphy called the meeting to order at 4:34 p.m.

Commission approved the recommended action on the below consent calendar

3.2 Consideration Request for Excused Absences
Mary Johnson provided excused absence form via email for today's
regular meeting.
Chair Murphy provided excused absence form for the March 13, 2025
meeting, to be attached to next agenda.
Robert spoke regarding excused absence procedures.
Consider requests for excused absences as appropriate.
3.1 Approval of Meeting Minutes
Approve the minutes dated March 13, 2025.

Robert spoke regarding various topics.
5. ACTION ITEMS
5.1 Change of Frequency of Regular Meetings
Housing and Homelessness Director Kurz provided an update on the
frequency of meetings.
Chair Murphy spoke about quorum issues. Commissioner Hernandez-
Edwan spoke on unexcused absences.

Moved by Commissioner Hernandez-Nader
Seconded by Commissioner Mallen
Approve resolution changing frequency of regular meetings from the
second Thursday of each month to the second Thursday of every other
month (August, October, December, February, April, June). The motion
was carried by the following vote:
Yes (5): Commissioner Edwan, Commissioner Hernandez-Nader,
Commissioner Mallen, Commissioner Orozco-Valdivia, and Vice Chair
Guerrero
No (1): Chair Murphy

Chair.
Moved by Commissioner Orozco-Valdivia
Seconded by Commissioner Hernandez-Nader
Commission to consider Vice Chair Murphy as the Chair for the remainder
of FY 24/25. The motion was carried by the following vote:
Yes (6): Commissioner Edwan, Commissioner Hernandez-Nader,
Commissioner Mallen, Chair Murphy, Commissioner Orozco-Valdivia, and
Vice Chair Guerrero
Result, Carried (6 to 0)

Commission to consider Commissioner Guerrero as Vice Chair for the

5.3 Discuss and Identify: HWAC Goals and Objectives
Commissioners reviewed a previous exercise on areas of interest for the
upcoming FY 25/26.
Robert and Daniel Harrison spoke on the item.
Commission will continue the review on goals and objectives at the next
regular meeting.
