The Board met in regular session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, on the above date, with President Peters presiding. Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. Present: Trustees Peters, Bent, Shaw, Wentworth, Lyons. READING OF MI1IT~ES: The Minutes of the regular meeting of August 2, 1924, and the adjourned regular meeting of August 19, 1924, were read, and approved as read. _r GRADE 01: I STREET BETWEE!T THIRD AND FOè'RTH AVEI;¡.~S: ;'1r. WIDTH OF: Mr. C. A. Sumner asked that the ordinance providing for five foot sidewalks be suspended on sidewalks he proposes to lay on Del Mar and tth Avenues, near I Street. The request was denied upon motion by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Lyons. REPAIRS ON SIXT'A AVENUE FROM F TO I STREETS: A petition signed by seven property owners on 5th Avenue. between F and I Streets, asking that 5th avenue between the two points mentioned be crowned and graded to a width of 28 feet, leaving a 12-foot parkway, was read. After discussion, it was decided that the city engineer will check up this part of the street in question. and report at the next meeting. Motion covering by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Lyons, carried. WIDT'A OF SIXTH AVE!1UE: The question of the exact width of Sixth Avenue, as to whether it is 40 or 80 feet wide, was referred to the city attorney for investigation and report, his report to show if the city owns the entire street, or only fifty feet of it. Motion covering by Mr. Bent, seconded by À~. Went- worth. carried. GUTTERS STOPPED: The City Marshal was instructed to notify all property owners where the gutters have been stopped. in violation of Ordinance No. 95, that such stoppage must be removed at once, upon motion by Mr. Wentworth. sec- onded by Mr. Lyons, which carried. SIGNS ON STREETS. The promotors of Glenn Abby Memorial Park. asked that the city authorize them to place a street sign in the plaza. at the corner of Third Avenue and F Street, directing all travel to Glenn Abbey Park. The request was denied upon motion by Yæ. Shaw. seconded by Mr. Lyons,which decided that the street must be kept clear of all advertising signs. MAP OF SOUTHEŒU, CALIFORNIAI A salesman advised the Board that his company is compiling a map of Southern California. to sell for k~9Q, or less, and solicited the Board for the purchase of one. City clerk instructed to purchase one. when completed; the map purchased to be printed on good grade of paper. PERIODICAL REPORTS: The monthly report of the City Recorder and Community Nurse were read, and upon motion by Mr. Shsw. seconded by Mr. Wentworth. they were accepted and ordered filed. ~ . STREET LEADING TO CONITON SEED PLANT: Mr. Capwell reported that in checking over the street leading to the Cotton Seed Plant. he had found that if the street is made straight. it will be necessary to make a fill. which he estimates that will cost approximately $2400.00. He thought it would be cheaper to purchase that part of the street in i-Section 151. Which is not owned by the city. than to make the fill. The city engineer was instructed to propose to the Cotton Seed Plant owners that if they will ,btain the above mentioned portion of the street. deed it to the city, the city will grade and surface with granite. the easterly 500 feet of the street. The city engineer was directed GO make a survey of this street and ascertain if the stteet as built lays on the line as deeded to the city. Motion covering this action by Mr. Wentworth, aeconded by Mr. Lyons. carried by the following vote. to*Wit: AyES: Tru8tees Wentworth. Bent. Peters. Shaw. Lyons. NOESI None. ABSE!~I None. STREET CAR COMPANY BUSES: A notice from the State R.R.Commission that a hearing will be held on September 12. 1924. to decide whether or not the busses shall be removed. was read. It was decided that no protest would be presented at the hearins. Regular Meetin~ of SeTItember 2.1924. TELEPHONE FRA1'CHISE: The city attorney reported his action in connection with obtaining a franhhise from the telephone company. He stated that he had informed the attorneys of the company that the State Raitroa4 Commission advises that no case similar to ours has ever arisen in this state, and the company attorneys have taken up the matter with the manager of the company. He will report the action of the manager at a later meeting. VACATION OF THE CITY ATTORNEY: The city attorney requested a leave of absence for a period of two weeks from September 14. 1924. and he ,stated t hat during his absence. the city attorney of Coronado will take of any matters that may arise. Granted upon motion by Mr~ Lwons. seconded by Mr. Wentworth. SIDEWALKS ON THIRD AVE~~: Mr. J. H. MCCulloch presented a deed for the westerly ten feet of ,Lots 11 and 14. i-Section 137. to be used by the city for street pur- poses only. The deed was presented to the city clerk, to be held by him and not recorded until compliance with the provisions of the minutes of a meeting held March 24. 1924. The deed and terms accompanying it were accepted upon motion by Mr. Sh.'lW, seconded by Mr. Lyons, Which carried. SIDEWALKS. LAYING OF THROUGHOUT THE CITY: Mr. Lyons offered Resolution No. 106. which is a resolution deciding that sidewalks and curbs will be laid on the following streets of the city. and which directs the city engineer to give notice to all abutting property owners where the sidewalks and curbs are to be laid. that they will be given until November 8, 1924. to have ]¡he work done by private contract. U not completed by that date. the work will be ordered by the city. according to J1¡rr.. It was decided that sidewalks and curbs will be laid as follows: ,.~.~ Avenue, both sides. from E Street to K Street; Second Avenue. west side only, from F Street to G Street; G Street. north side only, from Second Avenue, runnigwesterly for a distance of approximately 290 feet; Roosevelt Street. both sides, from Second Avenue to Third Avenue; H Street, both sides. from Second Avenue to Third Avenue; E Street. both sides. from First Avenue to Third Avenue. The resolution was read, and was adopted and passed by the following vote. to-wit: AYES: Trustees Lyons, Wentworth. Bent. Peters. Shaw. NOES: None. ABS~~: None. STREET LIGHTING CONTRACT: The clerk was directed to advertise 'for a new street lighting contract. to cover a period of five years. upon motion by Mr. Wentworth. seconded by 11r. Bent. which carried by the following yote, to-wit: AYES: Trustees Wentworth. Bent. Peters. Shaw. Lyons. NOES: None. ABS~~: None. ADDITIONAL DEPUTY MARSHAL: Marshal Clyne recommeded the appointment of John J. Byers, as an additional deputy marshal, to be used as a traffic officer, relief for the fireman and nightwatch¡nan. one day each week. at a salary of $175.00 per month, effective September 1, 1924. The recommendation was a,.,proved upon motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Lyons. which carried. VACATION FOR NIGHTWATCH1~: The police committee advised the board that it had granted a vaction of one week to the nightwatchman, and upon motion by Went- worth, seconded by Mr. Lyons, the action of the police committee was approved. REPARIS TO RESIDEl:CE OCCUPIED BY STREET SUPERINTENDENT: Mr. Shaw asked that a screen porch be added to the building. now occupied by the superintendent of streets which is owned by the city. The matter referred to the street cornmi ttee, with authority to act, upon motion by 1~.Lyons, seconded by Mr. Wentworth, which carried. ADDITIONAL FIRE EYDRA1~S: Fire Chief Smith suggested that more fire hydrants be installed if practicable, in various parts of the city. Referred to the fire committee for investigation and report. TRI~ITNG TREES: It was decided to have the tree warden trim street trees on Third Avenue, west side. north of E Street; G Street, north side, between Third and 4th Avenues. VACATION FOR CITY CLERK: The city clerk asked for a leave of absence for a period of ten days. as per proYisions of minutes of meeting held February 18, 1924, to be effective September 15, 1924. Granted upon motion by ¡.Jr. Shavl, seconded by Mr. Lyons, which carried. LOT 5. BLOCK 3.
