C, Conference Room B-111 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista, CA Present: Anthony Stewart, Nimpa Akana, Francia Castro, Tanya Williams, Lynne Pine, Commissioner Jimenez, Commissioner Nava Also Present: Karina Aguilar _____________________________________________________________________ 1. CALL TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Veterans Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 6:05 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Secretary Aguilar called the roll. 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS - Robert - Expressed concern that Board and Commissions agendas are not being posted on time. 4. PRESENTATIONS - No presentations 5. ACTION ITEMS 2 5.1 APPROVAL OF EXCUSED ABSENCE OF COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS FOR THE REGULAR MEETING OF OCTOBER 16, 2024 Moved by Lynne Pine Seconded by Francia Castro Commission to approve excused absence. Result: Carried Unanimously 5.2 UPDATE ON OUTREACH SUBCOMMITTEE - Commissioner Pine shared information about the AARP grant and asked if it can be administered through City Council. - The outreach subcommittee could work as a liaison to the Veterans Advisory Commission and use the funds of the grant to do activities and advocate for other things. - Commissioner Stewart would work with City Council to check if the grant would be possible. 5.3 UPDATE ON MILITARY REINTEGRATION PROGRAMSUBCOMMITTEE - Commission reviewed policy approved back in July. 5.4 UPDATE ON VETERAN OF THE YEAR SUBCOMMITTEE - Commissioner Stewart provided the members of the subcommittee the timeline checklist that was created last year for the Veteran of the Year award. OTHER BUSINESS 6. STAFF COMMENTS - No comments. 7. CHAIR'S COMMENTS - Commissioner Stewart encouraged the other commissioners to keep finding directions to get things done and make significant change. 8. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS - Commision came up with the dates that they can prepare for: > Memorial May 3 > 4th of July > Veterans Day - Commissioner Akana asked to have an action item for next month about having the commission's support for the Millenia library in having a dedicated Veteran space. - Commissioners Pine and Castro announced that they would be going to District 2's monthly meeting on January 16th. 9.
