MU'UTES OF AN ADJOUR1ÆD REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, CHULA VISTA,
CALIFORNIA, HELD JUNE 23, 1925.
The Board met pursuant to adjournment in the Council Chamber of the City Hall,
on the above date, with President Peters in the chair. Meeting called to order at
7,30 p.m. Present Trustees Peters, Bent, Lyons, Wentworth. Trustee ShaW absent.
SEWER SYSTEM, A letter from Mr. R. F. Goudy, Engineer for the State Board of
Health, calling attention to the fact that no steps have been taken looking toward
the construction of a sewer system in this city, was read. Clerk directed to write
Mr. Goudy, saying that action on letter will taken at a future meeting, when the
entire Board is present.

ADDITIONAL STREET LIGHT, 1~. J. J. Flint advised the Board that he is building
a new residence on I Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues, and that he is unable to
obtain electric service, without the expenditure of considerable funds necessary to
run wires and erect poles to bring the service to his premises. He stated, however,
that if the city W~uld order the installation of an additional street light at the
intersection of tiã Avenue and I Street, there will be no charge to him for bringing
the service to his place. Upon motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Lyons, the
clerk was directed to order the installation of one 250 watt street light at the
above point, provided that no charge is made for the installation. Motion carried.
WATER MAIN REPAIRS. LEAVING STREETS IN BAD CONDITION, A report having been
made at the meeting of June 2, 19?5, to the effect that ~he Water Company did not
properly fill exca~ations made for the purpose of repairing its mains, Mr. T. C.
Macaul~. of the Water Company, appeared before the board, and stated that his
company endeavcrs to always leave the streets in as good condition as they were
befor excavating, but that if any defective work was found to exist, he hoped the
city would make the repairs necessary, and send a bill to his company for the work,
which would be paid promptly; or, if the superintendent of streets will notify him
of anydefective work, he will have it corrected at once.
GARBAGE COLLECTION: 1~. S. R. Russell asked the board for a franchise
authorizing him to extablish the business Of collection garàage and rubbish. He de-
sired the board to grant him the exclusive right to conduct such a business, payment
for his services to be made by those residents who desired to engage him. Matter re-
ferred to the city atêJorney.
SECOND A'r&NUE. CONDITION OF, Mr. J. J. Baeder complained that the surface of
Second Avenue, near G Street, is higher than the new curb installed at that point,
and asked the city to lower it. He said that if the city will tear up the surface,
he will have the dirt removed by private contract. Decided to have the street super-
intendent perform the work requested.
SIDEWALKS. EXTENSION OF CONTRACT, Upon motion by 1~. Lyons, seconded by Mr.
Wentworth, it was decided to extend the contract of Chester O. Nelson, for completion
of sidewalks in this city. for a period of 60 days. Motion carried by the following
vote, to~it, AYES, Trustees Lyons, Wentworth, Bent, Peters. NOES I None. ABSENT,

LUBRICATING OILS. CONTRACT FORI Contracts for furnishing lubricants for the
city equipment for the ensueing year were presented by the Standard Oil Company,
Star and Crescent Oil Company and Union Oil Company of California. After examination
and comparison, the prices quoted by the Union Oil Company being found to be the
lowest, the contract was accepted for 15 barrels of lubricants, at the prices stated
therein., upon motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded by 1~. Lyons, which carried by the
following vote, to-wit I AYES I Trustees Wentworth, Bent, Peters, Lyons~ NOES, None.

GASOLINE AND KEROSINE. FOR CITY EQUIP!lÅ’NTI The Standard Oil Company asked the
board to purchase ite kerseine, gasoline, distillate, etc., for the year commencing
July 1,1925, from that company. the price to be dealers price. The amount of taxes
paid by the employes of that company as compared against the taxes paid by the Union
Oil Company and its employes being compared, it was decided to purchase the foregoing
supplies from the Standard Oil Company for four months of the year, and from the
Union Oil Company for eight months of the year, upon motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded
by Mr.. ~ons, whioh carried.
SIDEWALKS ON ALVARADO STREET, A petition signed by eight property owners on
Alvarado Street, protesting the laying of sidewalks and curbs on that thoroughfare,
was read. Mr. C. C. Vandeveer addressed the board on the subject, protesting
against the work at this time. No action taken; matter held over for future reference.
TREES IN RETURN OF CURBS, The city attorney reported on the matter of removing

a tree from the curb return at the corner of E and 2nd Avenue, to the effect that owing
to Attorney Stearn, representing the protestant, is engaged in another matter, and Mr.
Andrews hasnot had an apportunity to confer on the subject.
TREES OBSTRUCTING VIEW AT JECOND AVENUE AND G STREET, The marshal oomplained
about the view being obstructed by trees and shrubbery at the corner of 2nd Avenue and
G Street, an4 stated that some aocidents had been caused thereby. The owners of the
property at that point are willing to have the trees removed, and it was decided to
have the street superintendent remove them.

CHICKEN HOUSE. COMPLAINT I Trustee Wentworth reported that a complaint had been
registered with him against the chicken house on 4th Avenue, opposit Cypress Street,
as being a deterrent to the sale of property in that locality. Clerk directed to
communicate with the owner and advise him that this complaint has been made; that if
the building is removed, it will probably obviate the action of proceedings declaring
it a nuisance.
REPORT OF PLANNING COMMISSION, The City Planning Commission submitted a report
in which the following recommendations were made,
1. That no more trees be removed from the streets, without the approval of the
Planning 60mmission.
2. That means be arranged to plant trees on the streets, not now planted with
trees, the commission to decide the kind and variety.
3. That the Tree Warden be placed under the supervision of the Planning Commis-
sion, and to report to the Commission monthly.
4. That the provision of Ordinance No. 124, be complied with. This is t he ordin-
ance providing for cleaning up weeds, dry grass, rubbish, etg,

NURSE. VACATION FOR, A request from Mrs. Marcella Darling, asking that the
Community Nurse ge given a vacation of one month, commencing June 29,1925, was read.
Granted for one month, less any time off duty during the year, upon motion by Mr.
Lyons, seconded'by Mr. Wentworth, which carried.
NURSE. RENEWAL OF CONTRACT, The contract of the Community Nurse was renewed
for a period of one year, as provided therein, with all the stipulations and require-
ments contained therein, except that the words, "for cause", in the 21st line were
eliminated, upon motion by Mr. ~ons" seconded by Mr. Wentworth, which carried by the
following vote, AYES, Trustees ~ons, Wentworth, Bent, Peters. NOES, None. ABSENT,
Trustee Shaw.
REMOVING TREES FROM STREETSI A request from Mr. B. F. Wigginton to remove
2 Pepper Trees fronting his Wigginton Apartments, on 3rd Avenue, was read. Upon
motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Lyons, the request was referred to the
Planning Commission.
SIDEWALKS. PROTEST AGAINS CONDITION: A protest against the condition of the
sidewalk, recently laid on E Street, fronting the Shaw property. was made by Mr. Geo.
H. P. Shaw, to the effect that the surface is uneven and the expansion joints are ex-
cessively wide. Clerk to notify Mr. Shaw that his complaint will be considered at
time for hearing complaints, after the completion of all work now under contract.

ORDINANCE No. 125: Upon motion by Mr. ~ons, seconded by Mr. Wentworth,
Ordinance No. 125 was placed on its second and final reading. The ordinance was

it was passed, adopted and approved,as read, by the following vote, to~it, AYES:

Ordinance No. 127 was placed on its second and final read\ng.- The ordinance was

MEETING OF JUNE 23.1925, Continued.
PRINTING, The question of the Chula Vista Star having printed some police citations
on paper not in accordance with specifications governing the printing for the current
year, was brought up, and upon motion by Mr. Lyons, seconded by Mr. Wentworth, it was
decided to require the printer to furnish these citations on paper as called for by the
specifications. Motion carried.
