Mu.'UTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETŒG OF THE BOA..1ID OF TRUSTEES, CHULA VISTA,
CALIFORNIA, HELD SEPTEMBER 22,1925.
The Board met pursuant to adjournment, in the Council Chamber of the City
Hall, on the above date, with President Peters in the ohair. Meeting called to order
at 7:30 p.m. Present: Trustees Peters, Lyons, Wentmrrth, Shaw, Bent.

BUILDINGS IN nUŒ..'! .'IRE DISTRICT: A. V. Jordan, representing the Union Ioe Company,
complained against the action of the Board at its meeting of September 1,1925, which
directed the Ioe Company to either move an ice box located at the corner of F and 3rd
Avenue, or make it oomplyiwith the Fire Zone ordinance. He stated that the company had
complied with all the requirements when the ice box was constructed by applying to the
building inspector for permission to erect it; that the building inspector is the auth-
orized official to grant such permi ts, and that the company did not feel that it was fair
treatment to now order changed. The building inspector, the fire chief, and the city
attorney were called on for opinions, and after discussion, upon motion by 1~. Shaw,
seconded by Mr. Wentworth, the action taken by the Boa.m on September 1, 1925, was re-

PURCHASE OF A LIGHT TRUCK, Claude V. Brown, representing the Chula. Vista Garage,
suJamitted specifications for a light truck, with the statement that he understood that
the city intends to purchase a vehicle of that kind. Referred to the Street Committee,
to be brought up at the next meeting.
DEL W~ AVENUE: A ooomittee of residents living on De11~r Avenue, south of J
street, consisting of Messrs. Codington, Rife, .'isher, Edmunson, Tabor, s.ppeared and
asked for repairs on Del Ms.r Avenue, from I to J Street. The street committee agreed
to do the work before the rains commence this Year, with the understanding that each
property owner in the section mentioned will put in a concrete gutter across the drive-
ways leading into their properties. The city engineer was instructed to furnish grades
for the concrete gutters mentioned above.
ADVERTISING: A representative of the San Diego Union advised the board that his
paper is getting out its usual annual edition, and asked the city to take a page of
advertising, at $400.00 per page. Matter held over until the next meeting.
MAP OF CHULA VISTA: The city engineer presented a copy of an up to date map of
the city, printed on cloth paper, with the statement that he had prepared the map on his
own time, in order to have complete city map which is up to date, and asked the board to
purchase three copies, one each for the city engineer's office, the planning commission
and the city clerk' s offioe~ Clerk authorized to make the purchase upon motion by Mr. '¿..uL

PURCHASE OF STREET MACHINF~1J.Y:"he street co=ittee recommended that the city
purchase a tractor, a Fresno and a light truck. After d!~:qssi.Qn,. the clerk was instructed
to advertise for the purchase of aJ~ caterpillar traë1orr,~Pòh motion by Mr. Bent,
seconded by Mr. Shaw, which carried by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Trustees Bent,
Peters, Shaw, Lyons, Wentworth. NOES: None. ABSENT: None.
6BÐINANCE No. 132: Upon motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Lyons, Ordinance
No. 132 was placed on its first reading. This is an ordinance nrohibiting water used
for irrigating purposes, from running into or across the streets or alleys of the city.
BENCH ON THIRD AVENUE: Dr. F. E. Ashoroft asked for permission to install a bench
on Third Avenue, at Alvarado Street, for use of patrons waiting for stages to the city.
No expense to the city involved. Upon motion by Mr. WenÞ"orth, seconded by Mr. Shaw,
the authority was granted.
STREET DEEDED TO THE CITY, A letter from the Broderiok Land Company, was read,
in which that company desired to deed Cedar Street to the oity as a public street. The
statement was made to the effect that the street was graded and graveled. Referred to
the oi ty engineer to check up and report at the next meeting.
TIDE LA..~S. WHARVES THEREON: In the matter of the amount of compensation required
for the use of the city's tide lands, occupied by privately owned wharves, a letter from
the attorneys of the San Diego Oil Produots Company, in this connection, was ref~rred to
the city attorney for recommendation.

BUDGET: After considering the various estimates for expenditures, submitted by
the heads of the several departments of hf city government, upon motion by Mr. Went-
worth, seconded by Mr. Shaw, the following budget of expenditures was adopted for the
year commencing November 1,1925, and ending October 31, 1925. The motion carried by
the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Trustees Wentworth, Bent, Peters, Shaw, Lyons.
NOES: None. ABSEI\T: None.

BUILDINGS IN INNER FIRE DISTRICT: Mr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Shaw, made the
following motion: That the Building Inspeotor and Fire Chief be instructed to approve
no building permits, or join therein, for any changes or improvements to the outside of
any building or structure within the Innner Fire Distriot of the City of Chula Vista,
unless the application and plans for said permit comply in all respects with the pro-
visions of the ordinance of said city, contained in Ordinance No. 106, of said city, b
being an Inner Fire Distriot ordinance, and that before any building permit be
approved by the Building Inspeotor for the construction of any structure or alteration
thereof, within the Inner Fire Distriot, of said city, that the approval thereof, in
writing, be obtained from the Fire Chief of said city. The motion carried by the follow-
ing vote, to-wit: AYES: Trustees Wentworth, Peters, Shaw, Lyons. NOES: Trustees
Bent. ABSENT: None.

ORDINANCE No. 133: Upon motion by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Wentworth, which
carried, Ordinance No. 133, was placed on its first reading. This is an ordinance
levying a tax on all the taxable property in the city of Chula Vista, for the year
1925 and 1926: The rate of such levy is as follows: General Fund, $1.00 on each
$100.00 of assessed valuation; for 1920 City Hall and Fire Department Bond fund,
redemption and interest, 7</.; for 1913 Street Improvement Bond Fund, redemption and
interest, 11</.; for 1923 Municipal Improvement Bond Redemption and Interest, 5</.;
for 1923 National Avenue Paving Bond Redemption and Interest, 22</.; for Library
,'und, 19\1; for the lawful expenses of the City Planning Commission, 13\1; total
$1.77 on each $100.00 of assessed valuation.
SELLING CITY HORSES: The street superintendent was instructed to dispose of
all the horses, harness and wagons, except such wagons or harness that may be needed,
at private sale, and at such time as the animals may be disposed of without interfering
with the regular work on the streets, upon motion by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Went-
worth, which carried by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Trustees Shaw, Lyons, Wentworth,
Bent, Peters, NOES: None. ABSENT: None.
BILLS PAID: Upon motion by Mr. Bent, seconded by 1~. Wentworth, the following
